Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Thursday said that Punjab police were close to arresting the culprits responsible for yesterday's blast in Lahore's Johar Town that claimed the lives of three citizens.

The minister tweeted that officials had achieved "great success" during the investigation process. "Punjab police will soon arrest the suspects and give good news to the people," he said.

In a video shared alongside the tweet, the interior minister said that Pakistan's enemies could not tolerate the economic and political stability in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and had started adopting "terrorist routes".

He said that elements that want to spread chaos in the country would fail as Pakistan "will never come under pressure".

"We have completed 86 per cent of fencing work on the Afghanistan border and 46pc of the work on the border with Iran," he said, adding that fencing of the Afghan border would be completed within the next one-and-a-half month.

Fencing of the Iran border will be completed this year, he said.

Johar Town blast
A day earlier, a powerful blast near the residence of proscribed Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed killed three people and injured 24 others, including a police constable.

Six-year-old Abdul Haq, his father Abdul Malik, 50, and a young passerby died in the explosion that left a four-foot-deep and eight-foot-wide crater on the road and damaged several houses and shops nearby.

Citing initial investigations, a senior police official told Dawn on condition of anonymity that about 15 kilogrammes of explosives had been planted in a car that was stolen from Gujranwala and parked near the residence of Hafiz Saeed in Board of Revenue Housing Society, Johar Town. His residence remained safe, but many other houses and shops falling in 100 square feet radius of the blast site were damaged.

Eyewitnesses said the blast was so powerful that the residents in the street rushed for shelter, while those indoors locked themselves up fearing an armed terrorist attack.

Javed, who runs a business in a market near the blast site, said he was dealing with some clients when he heard a deafening explosion. A few seconds later, he said, he saw some people injured and the boundary walls of nearby houses covered with dust and blood stains.

“I saw a car completely destroyed and a rickshaw up in flames, besides a deep crater on the road,” he added.

An employee of a motorcycle workshop nearby, who was also among the injured, said he was using his mobile phone when he heard the blast. As he came out of his workplace, he saw several injured people lying on the road.

“I also saw a minor boy in critical condition, three women and a young man unconscious on the road near the blast site,” he said, adding that he also saw a man fighting for his life with both legs critically wounded.

Why can't he shut his mouth until the suspect is arrested. Why there is so much hurry to come to the TV and start announcing it even the person is just going to be a suspect only. Arrest him, do interrogation and then come to announce.

LAHORE: A man has been arrested by intelligence agencies on the suspicion of being involved in Lahore's Johar Town blast, one which claimed three lives and left at least 24 people injured.
According to the police, the man was flying to Karachi but he was asked to get off the plane minutes before take-off. The suspect has been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

On the other hand, the car which was used to carry out the bomb blast has also been identified by the police. It turned out that it was a stolen car which had been snatched in 2010. A first information report (FIR) related to the theft of the vehicle had been registered at a police station in Gujranwala.

Per sources, police further revealed that the car carrying explosives possibly entered Lahore via the motorway. When the vehicle was searched at the time of entering the city, there were no explosives found at that time.

A probe related to when the explosives were loaded onto the vehicle is underway, sources said.

Three killed, 24 injured

Three persons died, while at least 24 people were left wounded after an explosion occurred in a house in Lahore's Johar Town area.

Witnesses say that the glass windows of nearby houses and buildings have been shattered. One of the buildings has been severely damaged and some vehicles parked at the site of the blast have also been affected.

Hospital officials say nearly two dozens people sustained injuries and have been shifted to Lahore's Jinnah Hospital via private cars and auto-rickshaws.

The sound of the blast was so loud that it was heard in faraway areas. However, the nature of the blast has not been ascertained yet. An eyewitness told Geo News that an unidentified individual parked a motorcycle near the house which later exploded.

Police have cordoned off the area for further investigation while traffic has been redirected.

Explosion aimed at a high-value target

Inspector General Punjab Inam Ghani has said that police had been targeted in the attack. He advised the people to not listen to rumours related to the blast.

The IGP told the media that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is probing the incident and a detailed report will be shared about the nature of the blast and the material used in it.

When asked about a high-value target near the crime scene, Ghani said had there been no police post, the vehicle could have reached it.

"You should be thankful to the police," he said.

He, however, did not share any additional information about the high-value target in the area.

S. Rashid is a proven liar and an insensitive psycho whose reality, manifested in the depths of human misery. A bottom feeding sponge of the food chain.

I can say all of this as a free citizen of a free country much like current PM who called him unworthy of a security guard job yet made him minister of interior for the whole country.

It's amazing that stolen cars are driven around in our country for 11 years without anyone ever catching the culrpit. If only we had a national network of ANPR cameras.

There should be a law passed that every building, residential or commercial should have a camera pointed towards the road, we can easily catch terrorists and thieves alike. Especially in cities.
