Punjab govt will shift 10,800 schools to solar energy

. . . .
@zulu @ps3linux

Sirs, it's happening with schools ... And it won't be surprising if the remote villages start getting solar supply as well in near future - as we discussed elsewhere. Hopefully when the new local bodies are in place.

As part of job and as part of hobby I travel a lot, long drive is among my favorite pastimes across punjab and KPK wherever there is electricity shortage/line problems you will now see solar panels on the roofs and solar equipment inside homes. If you travel on motorways M2 and M4 particularly you will see solar panel from small one panel to huge multipanel setup, I met this guy near kallar kahar who has setup like 10 KVA solar and is technically earning money from GoP.

The unfortunate problem I see is that there is no local manufacturing, assembling if one can call it is being done but the quality of panel is "C" which is a pity because in Pakistan the cost of solar is approx 1.5$ per watt which is almost three times that of international prices on a wholesale level.

We don't think that much especially if it is provincial govt. However some entrepreneur should have stepped in. Why we expect everything to be done by the govt? Why does the nation lack entrepreneurial thinking? Pakistan is a vast market for PV panels but everyone wants to invest in the real estate or starting up some grocery stores, petrol pumps, school, restaurant etc
No one thinks about expanding their horizons and invest in other areas that have more potential and growth. My conclusion is that we are short sighted people who are always looking for shortcuts and quick money.
West have started to make solar windows now.so far behind.

All of us keep looking at the govt while whenever we want to invest we just buy property, stock dollars, buy shares and trade in stocks... but none of us wants to use his or her brain and step into new areas. And BTW PV panels is neither a new technology nor you need to do any R&D... It has been in use for more than 3 decades. It is a mature technology so all one has to do is to hire a few skilled people, get some licenses, install the machinery and produce them. All the knowledge and technology is available in open market.

It's the usual curse where the middleman is making a huge profit margin. Price regulation is nowhere to be seen.

Oh no sir its basically money laundering under/over invoicing on LCs, don't want to go in details right now middleman (dallal) is just one aspect of it.

The dilemma is those who have ideas don't have the money, and those who have money don't have the idea (what I call as creativity impotence). Those who have the money think the idea is worthless it is the money that counts and one of the reasons people invest with double shah.

After getting my idea plagiarized three times I decided to stop sharing them with people having money, back in the day I used to charge $2500 for just making one individual financial plan (abroad of course), we can bitch about it unless people with money understand that idea is equally important I don't see much happening in entrepreneurial creativity.

Badsha kay bachay jo hain!
We think everything is government's responsibility and previous govt have been taking loans subsidising things to fool these people with peanuts while looting 99% of the loan which we need to pay today.

In USA, there are venture funds and venture capitalists. There are a lot of match making events, a creative person can go to such events, pitch his/her idea and see if they are interested.

I dont think that happened to u in Pakistan.Here people only think safe(rem @War Thunder analyses between 4-6 kinda hardwired) and to be brutally honest easy income thats why investing in stock and property always preferred by them chahye jitny doobay gadhon ki nai fouj always ready who go on by some tips from friend or as usual khud ko 2 business page,2 tv prog dekh ky aflatoon samjhna.Friend's uncle offer him try to restart his factory(some zouq or zaiqa maslaa as was in loss whole setup is there) last year Shan group suffered huge loss in market i suggested him its best time lets try it .Bhai invest 30 crore in BTK but dont try in it which required very less amount .Still stuck in BTK ek paisa nahi aayaa

It is a much needed step. Our schools need to be properly lit, cool/warm when required and they need to have IT labs. Each school should have an IT lab so at the very least when children enter secondary school they should know how to use a computer competently. Each secondary school should make coding a mandatory subject and should have a qualified teacher to teach it. This is more important the arts, humanities, sports, languages. It is the skillset of the here and now, let alone the future.
