Punjab govt has lost its writ in Rajanpur: PML-N MNA

The ruling PML-N faced an awkward situation in the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday when its own woman legislator Dr Asma Mamdot pointed out that provincial government of Punjab has lost its writ in Rajanpur.

“The landlords in Rajanpur are ruling the district and police has failed to bust the Chotu Gang, whose gangsters are terrorising people, but the government has failed to impose its writ in the district of Rajanpur.”

The opposition took this opportunity to put the government on the defensive. Deputy parliamentary leader of PTI Shah Mehmood took up the point and asked the government to clarify. ‘It’s a serious matter as a member from the treasury has claimed that the Punjab government has lost its writ in Rajanpur and Sardars of the area were calling the shots. So the government should clarify,” he demanded.

Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt General (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch denied that Punjab government has failed in maintaining law and order in Rajanpur. “We will convey the concern of members to Punjab government,” he added. He said the PML-N member did not state that Punjab government has lost its writ in Rajanpur district. Through another point of order, MQM woman Legislator Kishwar Zehra condemned the incidents of firing at Jamaatkhanas of Ismaili community in Karachi. “Ismaili community is contributing to Pak economy. and now the terrorists are attacking them,” she deplored.
