Nothing happening in Faisalabad. There was an anti-encroachment operation lead by then DCO Nasim Saqiq under Shehbaz Sahrif's gov. It was EXCELLENT. All roads were cleared to illegal occupation, streets were widened as a result, there was a very strict check on wrong parking, palazas, shops and a property of some strong people was destroyed in that drive. You could drive right up to center of the city at Faisalabad Clock Tower in your car and park there with ease. The city was so much better. In last three years, it have ALL been undone. There are encroachments everywhere. Driving on the roads, specially in the old bazar area is messy and impossible. Nothing have started yet in this current anti-encroachment drive of PTI. Lets see if it ever comes to Faisalabad.

So you mean Shahbaz Sharif cleared the land and then let other people take over.
So how was he any good?
We need a consistent approach to defeat this menace and I hope the operation is carried out consistently and not forget about it after a few months, otherwise it'll be same thing all over again.

No.
All i shared was a fact. There was this anti-encroachment drive some years back under his gov. lead by DCO Nasim Sadiq and the results were exceptional. Sad that during last three to four years all that work have been undone and now you see roads that were three lane reduced to single lane as a result of encroachment and wrong parking.

Yes i hope that the current anti-encroachment drive of this new gov. reaches Faisalabad as well and also that there is continuous work on it and a consistent policy in order to make sure that we are not back in same place after 3 4 years.

Also required in Pindi the illegal constructions are responsible for massive jams

This is where Pakistan fails. I swear I have never seen any such grand "encroachment operations" in my entire life in UK. What I do know is if I leave something - like a metal bin on the pavement that takes away 6 inches of the pavement some old English hag will walk past, look at me in annoyed way, complain that the pavement is obstructed by me and caused her inconvenience. Within a a day I will have some young innocent looking female employee of the local council environment office knocking at my door giving me a notice and warning to remove the obstruction or face going to court.

In Pakistan the entire officialdom is asleep and over the months and years entire roads are built on or even occupied and nothing is done. Then some huge operation will be launched. Whatever happened to the idea of 'nipping evil in the bud'???

Yup!
I guess this current drive is limited to Lahore only for now, reason i dont know!! I hope it spreads province wide and then nation wide. We can spend millions invested in new roads and infrastructure if we can get to use the existing one at full potential.

Cannot agree more!!
This should actually be done at very low level, at personal level in fact. I hope once gov. clears these once there can be some educating and awareness about it and we can start to act like responsible citizen (though the chances of an over night change are rare. Strong strict gov. laws can make it happen.

such problems are due to overpopulation in big cities

. .
when there is unemployment unlike japan and china as in Pakistan plus overpopulation and people have not enough capital to hire shops for rentals due to poverty then such problem arise.Japan and china have much less poverty and stronger economy than Pakistan
Rubbish. Countries like China, Japan have cities 10 times more crowded but function like epitome of efficiency. Order, system, cleanliness prevails. Watch this clip to see what discipline and order look like -

Rubbish again. This is function of planning. Meaning cities should plan to have enough land allocated to use as 'shops' so that the price is in tandem with local needs. When this is not done what happens is excess demand coupled with no rules or corruption - for instance instead of renting a place for Rs1000 I can pay off the cops with Rs100 and take up piece of pavement the result is chaos.

.
you will not understand the pain of poor because you have not experienced such pain of poverty. This is reality and we should accept it instead of calling it rubbish and comparing us with strong developed countries without examining the history with which these countries like china and japan achieved this position. What our govt has done for these poor homeless and jobless people who are victim of this operation.

Current Govt have huge support for land grabbers and I am sure they will hand over vacant land to these mafias while poorest people will suffer under the sun.

I do. It's you who is not understanding. Poverty is state of mind first and foremost. The problem we have in Pakistan is state of mind. Take being clean. This does not require you tons of money. There is nothing stopping people to go outside and pick the rubbish outside in your neighbourhood. In fact as you mention Pakistan is too many people. Why not go and clean your neighbourhood? Why not plant some trees? I think PM IK understands this and is trying to change the state of mind of the people.

The other problem is land. The elite in Pakistan hoard land. They create artificial shortage of land which then drives prices out of the roof. Which then are alloted or sold to make money. If each city increased land allocation for retail the prices would drop but then the land mafia would have way of making money.

You not understand that i am not against cleanliness and tree plantation but my meaning is that those who are living in these lands are mostly poor which govt is clearing and cannot afford its cost. The increase of land price mostly took place in musharaf times when housing societies and real estate business started and this was done as a source of foreign investment but it resulted in increase in price of property
