I have been hearing a lot about Pakistani dramas and the recent popularity of Pakistani dramas among Indian audience. I don't watch much of TV but there is a buzz that Pakistani dramas which are different than Indian K-series of serials that focus on saas bahu politics are a welcome change for any professional Indians who are fed up of Ekta Kapoor. This is kind of surprising because Indian serials are much popular in Pakistan as well.

I did a quick search online and found that a military inspired drama (since this is a military forum) called alpha bravo charlie used to be very popular when it was aired.

What is the state of Pakistani TV entertainment today and how popular are Pakistani dramas among Pakistani audience? Back in early 90s Doordarshan which is the government channel had really entertaining and interesting shows like Surabhi, Malgudi Days, Reporter, Junoon, Bharat ek Khoj, Jungle Book (animation) etc. The coming of cable TV meant writers, directors, actors all abandoned Doordarshan and made a beeline for private channels.

Has cable TV changed Pakistan or does the Pakistani state run TV still holds popularity? Which are the most popular TV serials in Pakistan today and which ones are fondly remembered as classics?

Well it was held in Canada High Court that Zee network was airing Pakistani dramas without properly taking the legal rights, but infect it was airing them and claiming them to be Indian. Hence it was banned and hefty fines were also to be paid.

These days there a wast rage of Dramas that can be seen ranging form Indian, Turkish, Colombian, Spanish, PTV and private Drama productions.

Dramas aren't just shown on PTV anymore, there are other channels like Hum TV, Ary digital,geo TV,Urduone and others I don't remember, I don't watch them but I know they're popular

I can't stand Pakistani entertainment content from morning shows to game shows plus the drama serials now-a-days but they are popular with the market that matters i.e. Housewives

remembered as classics?

The Alpha Bravo Charlie if u have seen it is the best in my view. It was basically a story of 3 Army officers and is a sequel of Sunhary Din which was on-aired in 94. If u wanna watch it then watch Sunhary Din first it starts from the day they join Pakistan Military Academy and ends when they graduate. Then Alpha Bravo Charlie starts when they join their respective military units as professional Army Officers and ends when their sons graduate from military academy keeping in with the legacy of their fathers, but sadly one of the those 3 is not there anymore who died in the line of duty........

Its a very good drama and was the best drama in our history TRP wise.

PTV lost it's charm, private owned networks are doing better business (Hum, Ary, Geo)

I started watching a couple of episodes of alpha bravo charlie. I will watch sunehre din after finishing this first.
