Following a vote recount in PP-123 Toba Tek Singh-VI, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Sonia Ali lost to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Pir Qutab Ali Shah alias Ali Baba by 17 votes, it emerged on Thursday.

The returning officer (RO) of PP-123, Shehwar Amin Wahga, has issued Form 49 for the constituency which tabulates consolidated results including postal ballots.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) had ordered a recount in the Punjab Assembly constituency of PP-123 on August 3.

PML-N candidate Shah had filed the petition after losing the July 25 election to PTI candidate Sonia.


Shah had argued in his petition that a total of 128,000 votes were cast in PP-123. From these, 4,500 votes were rejected. He also claimed that his party's polling agent was not issued Form-45 after the counting of votes on election day.

The PML-N candidate had alleged that the PTI candidate was made to win through 'rigging' and the RO had rejected his request for a recount.

Admitting his petition, Justice Karim had issued directions for a vote recount in the constituency, which led to the PML-N candidate's victory.

Earlier, another PTI candidate Shah Farman, who was elected on PK-70 Peshawar, lost his provincial assembly seat to Awami National Party (ANP) candidate Khushdil Khan on August 2 following a recount.

Khan had filed an application with the relevant RO for a vote recount after losing to Farman by a margin of 47 votes.

As per results of the recount, the ANP leader bagged 15,544 votes against Farman, the former KP information minister, who obtained 15,357 votes. Khan was therefore declared the winner by a margin of 187

I think next it should be made a law that only one counting will be done if the criteria is met. Second recount should only be allowed if the plaintiff agrees to bear all incurred costs and any fines / fees if he or she lose in the second recounting as well.

Will you pay all the costs? furthermore, IK is not PM yet so he can't order anything, it was his gesture and he stands by his words. Also it is of no use since kh. Saad Rafique will eventually be disqualified and sent to jail because of his corruption in railways and paragon scandal. He may get a cell next to his leader Nawaz Shareef and have an honour of spending 10 years in his "blessed" company.

Also SC wants all the constituencies to be decided before taking the oath so we cannot just keep on recounting.

It's really unfortunate that misinformation is being spread vis a vis votes recounting allegedly had already been done multiple times. The fact is full recount was done in 15 out of a total of 280+ polling stations and the difference dropped from 700 to 600 in favor of Saad Rafique. At this juncture RO stopped recounting on any of the remaining 265+ polling stations for unknown reasons. 'Daal mein kuch kaala nahin poori daal hi kaali hai'!

That is why they say don't run mouth without knowledge. Recount had already been taken place on Imran Khan - Saad Rafique seat. SR wanted the recount to be held again for which court issued stay. It is better to be quiet and be thought of as a fool rather than to speak and remove all doubt.

This election was a joke. More then on election day, real rigging happened before that in punjab. In Pindi and Jhang regions taking advantage of extremely backward and religious population. And in south punjab by making sardars switch sides on order from Bajwa and their jahil slave supporters as we know will always vote to their sardar in wadera system or their pirs. The Supreme Court suspended on Wednesday the Lahore High Court’s order to recount votes in Lahore’s NA-131.

PTI chief Imran Khan, who had won from NA-131, had approached the apex court against the Lahore High Court’s order for a recount in the constituency.

Admitting Imran’s appeal for the hearing, the court has also suspended the order halting the issuance of a notification declaring Imran as the winner from NA-131.

The counsel for PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, who lost the elections to PTI chief, said Imran had said in his speech that he is open to the scrutiny of any constituency.

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar said that Imran’s speech was political and it would be appropriate to raise this issue on a political forum.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan the election tribunal can be approached after the compilation of the result.

Earlier, on Rafique’s appeal, the Lahore High Court had ordered the election commission to recount all votes cast in the constituency.
