ISLAMABAD: Before issuing the NOC (no objection certificate) for holding protest rally at Jinnah Avenue on May 11, the district administration has asked the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) to first address certain issues, Dawn has learnt from officials.

The PTI is holding the rally to protest alleged rigging in the general election held last year.

The administration has asked the PTI to give a tentative figure of the protesters and the time when the participants of the rally would reach the venue.

It also sought details of their (participants) lodging and boarding and their security. The PTI leadership has been asked to mark an area for parking the vehicles which would bring the protesters.

On other hand the interior ministry is still undecided about giving permission to the PTI leadership to hold rally at Jinnah Avenue or D-Chowk, the officials said, adding that but the security plan has been devised to avoid embarrassment at the 11th hour.

According to the plan, the protesters would not be allowed to reach D-Chowk, the officials said, adding but they would be kept at a distance of 100 feet from the Express Chowk at Jinnah Avenue where they would be allowed to set the stage.

The vehicles of the protesters will be stopped at Khyber Plaza or Kulsum Chowk from where they would reach the venue on foot. The vehicles will be parked at the Faisal Avenue and Seventh Avenue.

Moreover, All Pakistan Muslim League has announced its support to the PTI’s protest against rigging in the general elections.

General Secretary of APML Dr Mohammad Amjad at a press conference on Wednesday said the party activists, members and office-bearers would participate in the protest. — Munawer Azeem
