Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government needs the support of Pakistan People’s Party in creation of a new province in Punjab, said Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday.

“Two-third majority is required in the parliament for creation of a South Punjab province. We hope that PPP will support us,” said Qureshi, a senior PTI leader, while talking to reporters after Eid prayers in Multan.

He said the PTI government would address the water issue in Pakistan. “Water shortage is a serious matter not only for Pakistan but for the entire region.”

All four provinces, he said, have agreed to the construction of Bhasha Dam.

About the imprisonment of Pakistani doctor Afia Siddiqui in US, the minister said “she is a daughter of the nation. We have made discussion at all important forums over her issue.”

To a question, Qureshi said Pakistan wants to address the core issue of Kashmir in a peaceful manner through dialogue with India. “Hopefully New Delhi would reciprocate Pakistan’s offer for talks,” he said.

. . .
PPP has only 6 votes. What good it would do?
Thats at the provincial level...i believe in order to create new provinces legislation has to be done in the center i.e parliment and senate in which Pee pee pee still has considerable number of seats which can prove decisive

This is a damned if you do damned if you dont scenario failure will be dumoed on ppp and pmln while success will go to pti and this will further improve numbers for them in South Punjab

.
ik should not join ppp and try to pass legislation on their own even if thely fail and ppp not support yhem then it is bad for ppp and pmln and pti can still win in south punjab as their c.m is from south punjab and will focus on the development of this area.there is plan that zardari may be elected as president if ppp, pmln and MMA vote jointly for him on presidential election so ppp will exploit this and ask pti to support zardari in becoming president which will damage pti integrity and will increase corruption

But first you need support at provisional level and without pmln, you can't split the province in federal or senate

. .
South punjab needs to be out of this forceable connection

Multan etc never been historically in punjab

.
This is not a big issue. IK should try to pass legislation with out PPPP support if PPPP opposes it will take their veil off and then IK can pass the legislation after Senate election.

like our dear friend @Zibago has already said the PPP and PML N are in a catch 22 situation right now....if they support this initiative of forming south punjab the entire credit for it will go to the PTI and if they dont they will be blamed for it...in either case...its a win win situation for the PTI...they have played their cards really well this time

Pti cemented itself in South Punjab by persuing Seraiki province aggressively rivals have everything to lose

.
This would actually go in favour of Pmln because they have the major portion of seats in central Punjab, if south becomes a new province then Pmln can form govt in central Punjab. Pti stands to loose ground if they go ahead at this stage. What Pti should do is wait for the last year of thier tenure and then go ahead with this, in doing so they will already have shown their good governance(if they are able to) to people of central Punjab and Pmln would only have 7-8 months to govern central Punjab which are not enough to consolidate their power. In this way Pti will enjoy more than 4 yrs of rule over all of Punjab and will stand a greater chance of sweeping both central and southern Punjab in the next elections. The southern Mp's should be taken into confidence over this strategy, im sure they will understand.
