ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday said it would not take part in the next general elections if they were held under incumbent President Asif Ali Zardari.

PTI Central Vice-President Rauf Hasan told The News here that the way the Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan elections were held was a glaring example of rigging and better results could not be expected if Zardari was in charge at the time of general elections.

"This is my personal viewpoint: that in the presence of Zardari, the PML-N should also boycott the next election," Rauf, who is in charge of PTI's Information and Media Wing, said. He explained that his party was keen on achieving some major objectives prior to going to the polls i.e. preparation of error-free fresh electoral rolls, registering those who had attained the age of 18 years, constitution of an independent Election Commission and a blueprint for an interim set-up to oversee the electoral exercise.

Rauf contended that it was imperative to ensure a fair-playing field for all political players before the next general election. In this connection, he referred to PTI Chairman Imran Khan's demand made during the Lahore rally that all politicians declare their assets publicly. "Our demand is that all politicians must declare the billions of dollars stashed in foreign banks under benami," he maintained.

Replying to a question, the PTI vice-president said if the status quo were to persist and general election were held under it, the objective to transform Pakistan into a politically and economically independent state would not be achieved. He said the party would hold deliberations shortly to discuss how the pre-election objectives of PTI could be achieved, but insisted the Supreme Court and PPP-led government also had a role to play in this.

Meanwhile, the PTI has decided to summon its CEC meeting within a week to chalk out future line of action after creating ripples on the political scene by holding the biggest rally in decades last Sunday. The final date of the forum's session will be fixed on the return of PTI Chairman from China. He is expected back home on November 04.

IMHO he should not boycott this time , they must participate elections and if some thing unfair happens they must expose it to the nation.

its PTI demand that ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN must be INDEPENDENT AND FREE to work, which currently is under the direct influence of President house, unless its not free from the ruling house, ECP cannot act or conduct elections independently in a free and fair manner.

for that matter, a petition is in Supreme court. So, its basically not a boycott of Elections but rather a legitimate demand to make ECP independent from the influence of president house, whose resident currently is Mr Zardari.

So it means that youth will not caste their votes? does Khan thinks that there will be an independent ECP? I THINK he is running away.......

his demand is fair.... but supporters of PPP and PML N are afraid that if there is independent election commission then they can not play their foul game .............

In my opinion some is better then nothing , so participating is better , well its up to them to decide. If PTI joins election i will vote them else i have to find other honest person which seems to be hard.

he doesnot need to run away, nor he has ever before, he plays like a cornered tiger, and if you keep yourself updated you would know that ECP has already excluded the bogus votes from their lists. now the point is why to keep ECP under presidential influence and why not turn it into an independent body and why on earth it is not possible ??

and have no doubts in mind, PTI will contest ELECTIONS, and InshAllah will defeat Nawaz group and PPP single handedly.

Thumbs up , no elections under Zardari can be free and fair. Only a free election can ensure a cleaner result.

Nope, they won't. It was just Mr. Raof's personal opinion. PTI's riding its all time high wave right now and to miss it would be suicidal.

yep he is right ghaddari can do any thing to stay in power and no election should be under zardari .we can have interim president too as prime minister .a 5 years old kid know what ghaddari is and what it can do at election

Exactly, missing the elections would be like undoing all the hard work that has been done over the past few years. PTI has shown that they have a sizeable support base now. If they then get a ridiculously low percentage vote in the elections it will be in front of the whole Pakistani nation how the election has been rigged.
