PTI Minority MPA Gunned Down in Buner

.
Very sad. He is a huge loss to the nation. Was an active spokesman for the minorities and was a true patriot.

NAP must be implemented at its fullest otherwise we will be fighting this war again and again. The onus now lies on the govt to do their part. The army has cleared those areas but the govt must do its own parts and bring all madrassahs and mosques under govt control and govt monitored curriculum as well as developments in FATA so that the IDPs which have left their homes can comeback to ab amazing FATA. Currently only the army is doing development in that area. The govt must wake up to this. They must also bring international pressure on Afghanistan in hunting down TTP safe houses in Afghanistan.

Indeed for he was a Pakistani brother to me and again it must be stressed how our enemies cannot see a string coherent and united Pakistan. TTP is the enemy of Pakistan and will do everything it can to destroy Pakistan. We must make sure to leave these dark days of disunity, terror and selfishness behind and walk together as a united Pakistan forward.

That picture where he is on a horse with a Pakistani flag. Takes everything. What a loss for the nation.

PEER BABA / DAGGAR:
The last rites of Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Minority Affairs Sardar Soran Singh were held in his native town of Pacha Kaley in Buner on Saturday. The police said they arrested four people in connection with the murder.

Singh was shot dead on Friday at his doorstep when he was returning from a funeral. In accordance to Sikh rituals, the body of Singh was cremated at the Shamshan Ghat in Pacha Kaley. The body was draped in a Pakistani flag.

Hundreds of people of various faiths, mostly from Swat and Buner, attended the funeral and paid glowing tributes to the parliamentarian for his political and social activism.

Shortly before his last rites were administered, CM Pervez Khattak, Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser as well as special assistants Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Shakil Khan, Dr Amjad and Haji Abdul Muneam Khan visited his residence to offer their condolences. The chief minister and his delegation paid tribute to the late MPA and said his death was a great loss for the people of K-P.

Four arrested

Malakand Circle DIG Azad Khan also visited Pacha Kaley and offered his condolences to Singh’s family. He later told the media four suspects were arrested and being interrogated. He was hopeful of positive results.

Initial investigations into the killing of Singh suggested he might have been murdered over extortion.

“We are looking into the matter, but initial investigation points out he was targeted after refusing to pay extortion,” a senior police official toldThe Express Tribune, requesting anonymity. He confirmed four suspects were arrested, including one who was taken from the vicinity of the crime scene. Police believed two of the arrested individuals were directly involved in Singh’s killing, while the others facilitated the attack. A pistol was also recovered, the official added.

Born in Peer Baba area of Buner district, Singh studied initially at local schools and ultimately graduated from Degree College Swarhi. He married an Indian national and had a son and a daughter from her. However, the couple went their separate ways later on. He married a Swat resident ten years ago and left behind a son and a daughter with her. Singh was a popular figure in the area and elected as district nazim on a Jamaat-e-Islami ticket. He ultimately joined the PTI and was a member of the party till his untimely death.

Mourning for all

Leading figures from political parties and groups also attended the funeral. Among them were provincial ministers and leaders from different political parties.

Prominent personalities from various non-Muslim communities also came to pay their respects. Former senator and ANP leader Amarjeet Malhothra came from Swat along with members of the Hindu community. Malhothra held the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government responsible for the increasing number of target killings. He said it was high time all communities sat down to discuss ways of ensuring overall safety and security.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Baba Jee Gorpal Singh said the assassination of Sardar Soran added to the already existing sense of insecurity among non-Muslims in general and the Sikhs in particular. Sardar Charanjeet Singh, meanwhile, demanded the chief of army staff provide security and protection to the Sikh community.

K-P minister and JI leader Haji Habibur Rahman, former provincial minister and Awami National Party Buner President Mohammad Karim Babak, ANP parliamentary leader and MPA Sardar Hussain Babak, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Sar Zameen Khan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Buner chief and MPA Mufti Fazal Ghafoor and former MPAs Qaisar Wali Khan and Haji Said Rahim Khan attended the funeral. Buner nazim Dr Obaidur Rahman and naib nazim Yousaf Ali were also present.

Violent acts have not been reported against non-Muslims in Buner or Swat in the recent past. The period includes the time from 2005 to 2009 when the latter was under the control of the Taliban.

Hello All

The sad news came out .

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Malakand, Azad Khan on Monday claimed that Baldev Kumar, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) councillor from Swat, has confessed to involvement in PTI MPA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s minority affairs minister Sardar Soran Singh’s murder, Dunya News reported.

The KP minister was gunned down when gunmen on motorbikes stopped his car in Buner district, some 160 kilometres (100 miles) northeast of Peshawar, on Friday evening and opened indiscriminate fire.

Soon after the attack, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a press conference today, DIG Azad Khan refuted TTP‘s claim, revealing that rival Sikh politician, Baldev Kumar paid around $10,000 to have Soran Singh killed.

Pakistan Muslim body seeks Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for slain Sikh lawmaker

Bishop Mazhar Ishaq said it was a ray of hope for non-Muslims in Pakistan that people from different schools of thought and religions had united against the killing of Singh.

In an unusual move, a prominent Muslim organisation whose members include clerics and Islamic scholars has sought Pakistan’s one of the top civilian awards ‘Tamgha-i-Imtiaz’ for slain Sikh lawmaker Sardar Soran Singh.

At a meeting organised here on Monday by Pakistan Ulema Council to pay homage to the services of Singh, its chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi highlighted the struggle the prominent lawmaker made for interfaith harmony and elimination of terrorism in the country, the Dawn reported.

“We demand that the government announce ‘Tamgha-i-Imtiaz’ to Singh,” Mr. Ashrafi said, as he condemned the killing.

The award is the fourth-highest decoration given to any civilian in Pakistan based on their achievements.

Singh (58), the Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Minority Affairs, was assassinated in Pir Baba area of Buner district in the province when he was going back to his home after a routine walk last week.

“Singh sacrificed his family for the cause of Pakistan,” Mr. Ashrafi said, referring to the lawmaker’s refusal to leave the country along with his wife, who took divorce and settled in India.

Christian leader and Pakistan Interfaith Organisation president Sajid Ishaq said Pakistan belonged to non-Muslims as it did to the Muslim population.

Bishop Mazhar Ishaq said it was a ray of hope for non-Muslims in Pakistan that people from different schools of thought and religions had united against the killing of Singh.

The speakers expressed their resolve to initiate a campaign against terrorism, extremism, sectarian violence and corruption, the paper said.

Singh was a doctor, TV anchor and politician. Before joining PTI in 2011, Singh was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan for nine years. He was also member of Tehsil council, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee and Evacuee Trust Property Board.
