PTI, JI’s first joint attack on PML-N in NA

Ishaq Dars counter point was that this isn't the first time it has happened, previous governments also did the same!

How unfortunate... and still we have not developed a civic system and infrastructure.

It proves that Imran Khan is wrong and taxing Pakistan, is not the correct recipe for a welfare state.

It is because FBR can autonomously change the sales tax rate by issuing an SRO. It doesn't practically need the government's go ahead for its decisions regarding tax matters.

. .
And whats more interesting is that JI and PTI are presenting a tax free budget. So much for Asad Umar's analysis on agriculture tax, imran khan's tax plans and slogans etc. At least PML-N showed the guts to do the rightful but were severely let down by media plus the poltical parties. Now with 10% increase some more billions would either add to the debt or would have to be cut from development spending. Opportunist Opposition, Pathetic!

So it is a good idea to increase tax on those who are already taxed and to continue to ignore the wealthy because the ones who are making the decisions are actually the wealthy themselves?? As somebody said, they have increased tax on those who are earning 400k a month but have not bothered those who make 400k a day!!

That is decent indeed.

.
Indeed, the Civil Servants have no right to a decent livelihood!!

Specially, considering they have already paid 20 years of salary as commission to same politicians,, at the time of appointment.

Stupid People should understand this TAX is to get out the these shits, Loadshadding, Economy Downfall, and to get out IMF Loans... Which will eventually help the people of Pakistan in the end. Not for their own luxury where they have clearly mention to reduce the expenses. Ministers leaving the grants given to them.

Yes, this will be hard, certainly it will be.. But this is in the end will favor the Pakistani Nation, to grow. I will pay more TAX with the hope of betterment of my next generation. Same like Insurance for the Family.

That is a load of BS mate!!

Salaried class, of which I am a representative, have always paid taxes. Unfortunately, we are the only ones who are paying direct taxes whereas the real elite of our country pay NO taxes at all. This Budget merely taxes us salaried citizens more, both directly and indirectly!!

GST is much like our VAT, guess what will happen thanks to this increase...

Inflation first and foremost, then also the incidence of the tax will bare even more so heavily on the poor than the rich (it's a regressive tax), it's also bad for businesses it's like adding a price floor for all products, also it carries high administrative costs for the government and firms.

Economists are the ones criticising it, but clearly just like myself and others, they are stupid people.

Tax reform could have been made on a more progressive income tax system, widening tax net, going after tax evaders.

Yes, it has it's benefits...

But YOU ought not to so blindly follow your leaders, your a person, a voter, stop behaving like sheep.

Every tax has to be passed by the parliament before being imposed, no?

Isn't that the whole purpose of discussing the budget in parliament and passing it?

Isn't that why the Supreme Court sought a clarification from the government?

no, technically different from VAT. VAT is technically charged at the marginal value add of supply chain of product but GST is solely calculated on the final price. The advantage of VAT is that it broadens the tax base. However, unfortunately, our retail sector doesn't want VAT to be implemented. Musharraf and PPP government were forced by IMF (yes IMF forces us to do things that we should do by ourselves) the whole country went on strike and subsequently forced the government to withdraw the implementation of VAT. Even today, if PML-N goes for VAT, I can bet that everybody in opposition as well as retail sector would be jumping in protest band wagon.

New tax is proposed and enforced after the finance bill is passed.
GST,however, is already enforced and only rate change was proposed in the budget. Technically speaking, FBR can change the sales tax rate, grant exemptions etc at any time on its own will. Even if the government passes the finance bill, unless FBR doesn't issue an SRO, the tax change is not effectively implemented.

They aren't identical taxes nor are they levied at the same stage or methods.
However, their effects that I pointed out are absolutely the same.

My real question is, why have such a regressive tax at this point?
Surely progressive tax implementation is the way to go at this stage...

Even if PML claim to be free market economists, given our situation, the kind of tax reform upon speculations seems illogical.
Albeit, they have done a a better job than PPP government, but doing better then the old guy just isn't enough for Pakistan's current situation.

lol we have majority who cares about PTI which is fruad from Top to bottom, since they have no issues to criticize government on budget they are playing to the gallery. Infact their real pain is how come PML-N gov can produce such a good n economy reviving budget in such tough times. With this budget Inshallah we will cross 4% growth rate and decrease budget and ca deficit to 2% then automatically inflation will be lower perhaps in single digit and economy will be on right track.
