Prove that Earth is a globe or flat

You maybe (or will be) surprised that there are real scientists who are actively researching flat earth with high tech equipment.

Once you come out of mainstream media and start looking at new research by scientists who were fully convinced by the globe for most of their professional lives.

Issue is that it costs nothing to dismiss something but to challenge the findings of these scientists requires funding and high tech equipment (that they've used).
There is no credible evidence that suggest a flat earth. Real scientists are unbiased who don’t care if the Earth is flat, square or egg-shaped. They will be happy just to find out either way because they know honesty is the only path toward a true understanding of the world

If any real evidence is actually provided for the flat earth hypothesis/fantasy (testable, repeatable and verifiable using various experiments which back each other up) then I am sure there will be a huge discussion as to its merits but until then it merely remains a minority held fantasy

@war&peace

I hear what you are saying ! I am also having doubts esp that ppl are only allowed to visit antartica in chartered planes without windows ! And it cost a fortune . No other plane can travel? What’s with that ?

Here you scientist, prove one.

Sun's orbital speed = 450,000mph
Earth's orbital speed = 70,000mph

It's a continuous spiral (extended spring like) movement of earth if we were to project the sun's orbit.

How far is the North Star from Earth?

As earth is in this spiral movement, why does the position of the North Star not change?

Why have we we been seeing the same stars and constellations for thousands of years at the same angle and whatnot.

Let's take 1000 years only.
Hours in 1000 years = 8,760,000
Sun travels 450,000 miles per hour
Sun has travelled = 39,420,000,000,000 miles in last 1000 years

That 39.4 trillion miles the earth has travelled in just the last 1000 years. For comparison, distance to sun is 93 million miles.

Astrolobes date back to 150BC. One doesn't have to go that far back and pickup Astrolobes by Greeks and Muslims, so in last 1000-2000 years. Exact positions of celestial bodies are unchanged even if those astrolobes are used today.

Now Mr Scientist(s), above are 'scientific' facts. So please explain why do we see the same skies night in night out and our ancestors of thousands years before saw the same.

Does Noth Star move completely aligned with our north pole 24/7, whilst we are spinning around the sun in that spiral orbit? If it is, what is the orbit speed of the North Star being 400+ million light years away?

.
Well you could look at a satellite feed of the earth and watch it rotate. Alternatively all flat earthers should fund a mission to the moon. To save costs don't book a return trip.

.
But how do you explain the position being the same when earth is in one position and then the opposite of the sun 6 months later, whilst in that spiral movement.

The Earth is orbiting our own sun, not a sun 4.4 trillion km aways. Earth's orbit around our own sun is at a distance between 49-52 million km away not billions or trillions of km away. We never go that far or that close to the sun that is 4.4 trillion km away.

For example, if me and you are standing at one position and two of our friends are standing 100 km away. Now, if we decide to make a circle which is 5 feet from one end to other and decide to walk around it, our friends will still be at the same position a 100 km away. Our little circle a 100 km away makes little to no difference (only 2.5 feet at the most).

As I said, it costs nothing to dismiss.

Fly from London to Cape Town, and take groscope with you. You'll need a battery and a small air pump to keep it running for the 14 hours flight. You can get second hand gyroscopes used in the planes and then DIY to supply it with air.

Lock the gyroscope at level and start it. Then unlock it. When you've landed at Melbourne look at the gryroscope. If it's not at the same level when you unlocked it in UK, then the earth is not flat. If it's level as set, then earth is flat.

Gyroscope is fixed in space when spinning at the required speed, and gravity has no affect on it. It can easily handle 10G+ force and not budge. Earth's gravity is too weak to change the angle of a gyroscope.

Or if you can't be bothered to experiment yourself, ask any pilot how many times they adjust the gyroscope during a long haul flight (or even a short one) for curvature.

Or get in the car with the gyroscope, and drive 550 miles (straight line distance) from from Dover coast go Thurso coast (Scotland). At Thurso coast you will be 50kms+ below horizon (from Dover). And gyroscope should reflect that massive change. If it doesn't the curvature doesn't exist.

Distance Curvature
1 km - 0.00008 km = 0.08 meters
2 km - 0.00031 km = 0.31 meters
5 km - 0.00196 km = 1.96 meters
10 km - 0.00785 km = 7.85 meters
20 km - 0.03139 km = 31.39 meters
50 km - 0.19620 km = 196.20 meters
100 km - 0.78479 km = 784.79 meters
200 km - 3.13897 km = 3138.97 meters
500 km - 19.6101 km = 19610.09 meters
1000 km - 78.3196 km = 78319.62 meters

Now quickly come up with something clever to dismiss this simple experiment and it's potential result.

Well you could look at a satellite feed of the earth and watch it rotate.

Other than NASA feed, is there another?

Apparently there are thousands of satellites up there yet only NASA feed is live. I have not come across even one live video feed from an unmanned satellite. Do you know of an on-demand live feed?

Forms of transportation that travel long distances (planes, boats, and submarines) rely on gyroscope based navigation systems. These include the artificial horizon, and the inertial navigation system (INS). Flat earthers claim neither would work on a globe because as the vehicle travels far enough, the error in the gyro based systems would increase in proportion to the distance traveled. They would be correct if it were not for internal mechanisms that correct for the Earth’s curvature.

Here is a link to a video by a pilot that demonstrates the self-correcting mechanism in an artificial horizon

The INS contains a mechanism called Schuler tuning. From Wikipedia, here is an explanation:

"Schuler tuning is a design principle for inertial navigation systems that accounts for the curvature of the Earth "

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuler_tuning

As you can see from these two references, gyroscopes actually prove a spherical Earth, much to the chagrin of the flat Earth movement

@war&peace

Here you scientist, prove one.

.Sir, You asked many questions. most of them are based in ignorance.. but there is no question that is wrong.
Let me answer one.

the North Star distance does change. in fact the North Star reference is not absolute . In the past different stars have been called the North Star ( stars other than the current one ) . I hope this clarifies some things.

@war&peace

Here you scientist, prove one.
weirdly the question which is title of the tread , you haven't asked in the text .
Let me just say , Visually its impossible to determine if earth is a globe or flat ! you can only do it with measurement.

This is because the eyeball itself is a curve , and apparatus used to photograph is also composed of elements which have a curve in them which may or may not distort the image. So unless you are sure on how the aparatus works you cannot rely on it to determine the shape.

as for measurement to determine if its a globe , its widely available.
If its important to you to know if its a globe or a disc, you can do it or ask for experimental ways to do it.
Is it impoortant enough for you to do it? I suspect its not.. so lets go on since its inconsequential.

@Verve
Megallan proved that five centuries ago by circumnavigating the earth
1920px-Magellan_Elcano_Circumnavigation-en.svg.png

Obviously you cannot circumnavigate a flat earth. All of the world's pilots and seamen know this as a fact.
And living in 21st century using gps phone and satellite TV, one makes a joke of himself when he says that earth is flat.

Here's ISS live feed.
In case you think it;s NASA conspiracy, let me tell you that astronauts from all across the globe have been there.

Food for thought for you; Do tell me how can all of the below maps be valid if as per you the earth is flat?
Focus on these maps for a while.
Texas-Sounds-International-Map-2014.jpg

americas_central.jpg

world-map.gif

The Japanese didn't attack pearl Harbour by crossing Indian and Atlantic oceans. Obviously. However since the earth is a globe, they could theoretically do that as well.

Why 8 pages for this thread? Why it hasn't been closed yet?

This thread is a shame for any defence forum.

So far one civilian has managed 72 vertical miles .. and at 72 miles, the rocket stopped dead! As for curvature, the rocket was spinning so fast that camera sensors could not adjust - negative curvature was showing.
Negative curvature; my @ss.

You see same stars at night through out the year ? What is your zodiac sign ?Are you interested in horoscope ?

Obviously you cannot circumnavigate a flat earth..

Cant you ? If you go around the "circumference" of a circle/ disc , how would you define that?

Ofcourse .. again.. all these videos do not prove anything about if the earth is flat or not. Please look up spherical distortion

You must be blind, but okay. So are you denying the Quran?
“And we have made the earth egg shaped”. [Al-Qur’an 79:30]

The video posted, the guy claims that gyro self correcting for the curvature but doesn't explain how exactly (there's no electronic input to adjust - it's all mechanical) - he just says 'it adjusts for curvature' - that's it. There is no mention of how gravity affects the gyro but we already know that gravity has no effect on the gyro.

Watch this, and don't miss the part about FAA designing planes based on a non rotating earth.

Earth's axis is pretty constant at 23.5 degrees.

Please explain how we can see the same constellations from the dark side of the earth in December and then from the dark side of the earth in June as well (or March v Sept).
