Protests over Indian citizenship for Hindu Bangladeshis in Assam

India's BJP government, committed to granting Indian citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis, is facing stiff opposition in Assam. Assam has a BJP government as well but local groups are virulently opposed to its plans for granting citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis who came to the state after March 1971. The BJP's coalition partner Asom Gana Parishad's (AGP) has demanded introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state for protection of its indigenous people.

Former AGP chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta appealed to the Government of India to give the indigenous people of Assam special constitutional safeguards under the ILP system to ensure that the Bangladeshi refugees, after being settled in other states of India, cannot come back to Assam. Three states of Northeast IndiaMizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have the Inner Line Permit system which restricts the entry and stay of outsiders. Several local organisations in Manipur have been out on streets demanding introduction of ILP for a long time now.

The AGP has two ministers in the current Assam government headed by BJP Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Before the Assam assembly poll, the AGP had severely opposed the issue of granting citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis but later they fought the election in alliance with the BJP and are now partners in government. Mahanta is the chief advisor of Asom Andolan Sangrami Manch (AASM), a platform of the participants of the Assam Movement (19791985).

He recently said that the people of Assam should unite in their protest to ensure that the Government of India cannot amend the Citizenship Act in favour of Hindu Bangladeshis. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, which was tabled in Parliament on Aug 11 this year, seeks to give citizenship rights to persecuted religious minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is currently being examined by a parliament select committee after opposition parties said it needed more scrutiny. The AASM has asked the people of Assam to send emails to the Joint Select Committee formed by the Central government to amend the Citizenship Act to oppose the settlement of Hindu Bangladeshis in the state.

Mahanta said that according to the Assam Accord all infiltrators who came to Assam after 1971 will have to leave. Otherwise, all such people will be identified and deported. The AASM has moved the Guwahati High Court against the government decision to grant citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis. The Court has sought detailed information in this regard from departments responsible at both the Union and State governments. The AASM has stated before the court that if the government decides to settle the Hindu Bangladeshis in West Bengal or any other state, it would not affect them.

Several organisations like All Assam Student's Union and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad have continued to protest the decision of granting of Indian citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis in different ways. Assam Sahitya Sabha, a literary body Assam has also registered its protest over the issue. Meanwhile, an organisation representing indigenous Assamese Muslims, All Assam Goriya Moriya Desi Jatiya Parishad has sent a memorandum to the joint select committee of Parliament in protest against giving citizenship to illegal Hindu Bangladeshi refugees.

President of the Parishad, Rafiul Hussain Baruah and General secretary Fajlul Karim Hazarika said that the Indian Government is trying to jeopardize the future of the indigenous people by bypassing the Assam Accord. If the Government does that, the people of Assam will also be deprived of a correct National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Parishad

Situation in Assam seems far from ideal for India. Will it end up being another Kashmir in 2-3 decades?

Bangladeshis getting Indian passports
R Dutta Choudhury

GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - A very disturbing phenomenon of Bangladeshi nationals obtaining Indian passports with fake documents has come to light and the touts involved in such rackets are using new methods to dupe the authorities to prepare passports for foreigners. In one case, a Bangladeshi national, after obtaining a passport with such forged documents, even travelled to different foreign countries before he was nabbed in Pune.

Highly placed security sources told The Assam Tribune that the demand for Indian passports among Bangladeshi nationals has increased in recent times as it is easier to get a visa to go to the Middle East countries for jobs with Indian passports. Of late, the governments of the Middle East countries are not too keen on issuing visa or work permits to Bangladeshi nationals and that is why, the demand for Indian passports has increased considerably in recent times.

Giving details of the modus operandi used by the touts involved in the racket, sources said that they approach gullible people in interior places of Assam with the passport application forms saying that the signatures and other documents of such people are needed for getting benefits under different government schemes. After getting the signatures and other relevant documents from such people, the touts just change the photographs and apply for passports. Usually, the persons, who are never likely to apply for passports, are approached so that they are not caught in the act.

Sources said that if someone goes to the villages to verify, they would find the persons in the given addresses, but in the process, some others were getting the passports in the names of genuine Indian citizens. Moreover, the touts make it sure that the age group of the persons they duped is similar to the age of the persons for whom they are making the fake passports. Normally, during the verification process, the police verifies the documents and addresses, but the photos are not compared with the applicants thoroughly and this is where the racketeers get away. If the police verification report and the other documents are in order, the Regional Passport Office has no way to cross verify and the Bangladeshi nationals get the Indian passports, sources pointed out.

Security sources said that recently a few such cases have come to light and most of the cases were detected in the districts of Nagaon, Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi. When approached, the persons in whose names the passports were issued, admitted that they had never applied for passports while some even never heard of passports. Sources said that only a thorough investigation and visits to the residences of the persons in whose name passports were issued in recent times, particularly in the interior places, will bring out the details of the racket as so far, no one is sure how many such passports with forged documents were issued. “The cases detected may turn out to be the tip of an iceberg,” security sources admitted.

In addition to that, the racketeers also make forged certificates , ration cards and even Voter Identity cards to make passports for foreign nationals, while, it is also suspected that forged birth certificates made in Nagaland are also being used quite often.

Sources revealed that a few months back, a Bangladeshi youth, working in a canteen of a multinational IT firm was arrested on suspicion and he was carrying an Indian passport showing him as a citizen of Assam. On thorough investigation, it was found that he was in fact carrying a passport made with forged documents. He had also travelled to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia with that passport.

Sources also said that a group of youths were arrested in Barak Valley when they came to Assam from Bangladesh and their sole aim of coming to Assam was not to stay here but to make Indian passports so that they can go to the Middle East countries in search of jobs.

ASSAM : After Kaziranga, Mayong to drive out Bangladeshi immigrants
September 21, 2016 Admin 0 Comment

The Assam government on Tuesday said it would soon carry out an eviction drive at Mayong in Morigaon district where large areas of land were encroached by alleged immigrants from Bangladesh.

The threat came a day after the government had evicted the illegal settlers near the Kaziranga National Park in deference to a Guwahati HC order. Two people were killed during Monday’s eviction drive.

“The government demolished 331 houses at three villages in Kaziranga on Monday. It will carry out a similar drive in Mayong soon,” Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters here. He said the illegal settlers in Mayong did not vacate even after the government had given them sufficient time.

“We’ve given them enough time but they are still not moving away,” Sarma said. Supreme Court lawyer Upamanyu Hazarika, who is also a leader of an anti-infiltration group, had claimed that over 300 Bangladeshis settled in a village in Mayong over the past two years.

“For them, solar lights have been installed. They are beneficiaries of amenities that are not even available to the locals,” he had said.

Give Assam to Bangladesh then.

On a serious note Kashmir won't be the only demographic problem for India in the future as it seems. West Bengal, Kerala, UP ......good good. Keep going India. An India with several Muslim majority states would be a beauty.

Crime here from petty thiefts to murder and abduction, from killing rhinos to bike thefts, about 80% crime commited here are assocciated here by illegal bangladeshis. There is no hindu or muslim here. these people are drowning the name of beautiful bangladesh. The trend here is such that by yhe hearing of the term "bandladeshi" we assamese get an involuntary spike in anger. These illegal implentations were the work of congress and aiudf for mere vote bank purpose.

We can pickout mkst of the bangladeshis by a hillarious way. Just ask them the name of the state/country they are in; the staate anthem.of assam; who is mahatma gandhi. They get killed in the other ne states. But here in assam, they found shelter under congetss and aiudf. So the multiplication in numbers

Indian Muslims are one of the most uneducated backward community..It's not only in India. They lack to contribute in any field of education or progress..Keep your egotist behavior to yourselves..Whole world community is aware about that..

More an infestation than civilisation.
Civilized Muslims ruled over the three Continents excluding a heathen, cave-dwelling and monkey-eating Burma for more than ten Centuries. Any complain? Muslims spread civilization throughout the medieval period.
