Today, Kensington Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake an official visit to Pakistan. The trip, which is being carried out at the request of the U.K.’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will take place in the autumn.
It will be the first official visit by a member of the British royal family to Pakistan since 2006 when Prince Charles and Camilla traveled to the south Asian country. Previously, the Queen visited in 1961 and 1997, and Princess Diana traveled there on a solo trip in 1991.

"The Government and the people of Pakistan warmly welcome the announcement of the Royal Visit by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan this year," the High Commissioner for Pakistan to the United Kingdom, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, said.
He continued that the people of Pakistan "still cherish and fondly recall" the visits by the Queen and described the upcoming trip as a “reflection of the importance the United Kingdom attaches to its relations with Pakistan. The two countries enjoy historical links which both sides wish to strengthen further."

The itinerary for the trip has not yet been confirmed, with Kensington Palace saying further details will be shared in due course. The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office currently advises against travel to certain parts of the country. The Palace also shared that around 1.5 million people of Pakistani heritage live in the U.K., and around 100,000 British people are in Pakistan at any one time.
According to the U.K.’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, approximately 270,000 British nationals visit Pakistan every year. The two countries also have strong trade links, with U.K.-Pakistan bilateral trade in 2017 valued at £2.9 billion, or roughly $3.7 billion.
