MINGORA: Work on various gigantic developmental projects has been started under the supervision of Pakistan Army in Swat district to help bring it on road to progress and development.
As many as 1200 projects including reconstruction of 211 destroyed schools, bridges and roads would be completed across the district.
Talking to media persons regarding the under-construction work of Kanju bridge and Takhta Band road here, Spokesman of ISPR, Col. Akhtar Abbas said that work on developmental projects have been started after successful military operation that ensured the smooth return of affected people and restoration of peace in the picturesque valley.
He said that the Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani has provided Rs.2 million from his own fund for construction and repair of mosques in Swat. The Pakistan Army will personally supervise these projects and no compromise would be made on quality of work.
Work on 1200 projects has been launched this year for which billions of rupees would be required, he said. He said that reconstruction work on 211 destroyed schools, bridges, repair and construction of roads, mosques and Mingora hostel along with other mega projects have already been kicked off in Swat.
Likewise, Ayub bridge would also be constructed for which work on alternate bridge has already been in progress to ensure smooth flow of traffic, he added.
The Provincial Government has provided Rs.15 million for the construction of bridges, roads and other projects. Pakistan Army is distributing 3000 school bags, books worth rupees five lakh among schools children while 15 schools are being constructed by Pakistan Army.
Pakistan Army, he said, has repaired and constructed Shamozai bridge and Zarakhela road. He said that survey of the destroyed buildings in Swat are underway and up till now survey of 400 houses have been completed. The survey process will continue till November 25.
