The protests were carried out in Mozang area of Lahore and Saddar in Karachi where protesters demanded that the government stop supporting the US agenda.

They condemned the government for the release of US national Raymond Davis and demanded that the case of Dr Aafia Saddiqi should also be re-visited.

As much as I hate to say it, I agree that they should be allowed to protest as long as they do it totally peacefully and do not threaten to overthrow the state, even though I absolutely hate HuT and everything it stands for.

Excellent, but these arrests are not enough, clearly what is required is a sustained effort to infiltrate this criminal movement and identify it's members, identify the souce of their funding, the method they use in their logistics, monitor them and disrupt them.

They are a banned organization

banned by the traitor Musharaf... holds absoultely no meaning and weight in my eyes...

the ban has been challenged by the party in courts... one of the courts actually declared the reasons for banning invalid... and for the past five years the final hearing of the case is being delayed by the so called "azad adlia" (cough cough British assets) of Pakistan...

Banned outfit holds another rally amid police deployment

RAWALPINDI:
Hundreds of activists of Hizbut Tehrir, a banned outfit, successfully held a rally outside Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi on Sunday. Traffic on Benazir Bhutto Road remained suspended, while numerous Punjab police officials present on the scene did nothing to stop the rally.

The activists called for replacing the present government system in the country with caliphate (an Islamic political system). They raised slogans like “Say no to democracy”, “We welcome Khilafah”, “Kufar nahi Islam chahiey” (We want Islam, not secularism).

Police sources said that lack of coordination and the absence of senior police officials at the scene were the main reasons why police made no attempt to stop the rally. They did, however, arrest two of the more than hundred people participating in the rally.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a police official requesting anonymity said, “It is not easy to arrest members of [Hizbut Tehrir], as they enjoy cordial relations with politicians and high-ups.”

He added that few of the organisation’s members that were recently arrested by the Lahore police were released on Saturday due to pressure from influential politicians.

A statement issued by Hizbut Tehrir after the rally said, “Our members have braved the harshness of the traitor rulers for the sake of Allah and Rasul Allah. We pledge to continue our struggle against the American kuffar (infidels) and their agent rulers until Allah bestows us nasr (help).”

An activist of the organisation, Ahmed, said, “There is no justification to impose ban on our activities, as we are a non-violent and non-militant organisation.”

He said that the government’s ban on the organisation’s activities is unnecessary and needs to be lifted. He said that the organisation holds such activities in other major cities of Punjab province but only receives resistance from the police in Islamabad.

The capital police recently foiled an attempt by Hizbut Tehrir to hold a seminar at the National Press Club in Islamabad. In a press statement, the organisation had termed the police action “a conspiracy against Islam”.

Big surprise, these people enjoy support from fundamentalist parties like PML-N :disagree:

They should stay in England and stop trying to spread their fundo views in Pakistan

This explain much I think, but also the fact that must be faced is that Pakistanis generally find Islamist ideas, particularly pan Islamism, well, rather appealing - This schizophrenia in Pakistani society, to my thinking, is due primarily to the notion that ideas die hard -- An murderous utopian notions, well, those die even harder.

Pakistan, home to Jamaat e Islami and a host of other extremists organizations funded by the Saudi and patronized by the political and military elite, find herself in a terrible pickle - after all, all these ideas were once the pet projects of the Pakistani political, and military elite - today, while they cannot offer public support the quote above suggests that much support is offered covertly - the poor police risk their careers and sometimes their lives in tackling these.

Will Pakistan overturn the banning of the Hibz ut Tahrir?? No, it just won't happen, official hypocrisy has served Pakistani politicians well, count on it to continue. In the meantime, how ought these criminal conspiracy be dealt with? Some are suggesting that we may take a lesson from others and ship the bodies to sustain the oceans.
