PMSA Commissioning Ceremony Highlights Pak-U.S. Cooperation

Karachi, September 21, 2017 – Acting U.S. Consul General John Warner and other representatives of the U.S. Mission to Pakistan attended a commissioning ceremony hosted by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) for two 110-foot Island-Class patrol boats.

The boats were provided by the United States to the PMSA via a grant transfer on December 7, 2016. Over the last year, more than 40 Pakistani sailors received training in Baltimore, Maryland, on how to operate and maintain these patrol boats.

The transfer of the vessels, valued at nearly $16 million, contributes to shared U.S.-Pakistan security interests. The patrol boats enhance the PMSA’s ability to conduct maritime security operations promoting the free flow of commerce while detecting income-generating narcotics and contraband that could be used by terrorists to fund and conceal their organizations.

This is just one of many examples of ongoing cooperation between U.S. and Pakistani military forces, bolstering our mutual security by working together to confront shared challenges.

When you start introducing shitty products , it sets wrong example for standards

In all honestly don't understand a nation of 200 Million people can't find manpower to make
140 Meter Ships with "HAND" forget fancy machinery we have enough man ower to make 140-150 meter ships

Give the workers a salary and tools and they will make a replica of the best Aircraft carriers if they need to just need to have a thinking of nation that wants to reach it's full potential

US since 60's has been keen to keep all the Navies of the region backward and does nots supplies such ships as a means to be the police in region and influence regional policy

There might be 100,000 labourer in gawadar who would take Pakistani standard salary and manufacture an amazing Cutter ship all made locally by hand

Difficult for me to understand that Pakistan can't spare 70-80 Million for 8 Used coast guard ships and , can't place order for Turkish Coast Guard fast boats


We could have a nice 8 Ships(used) (50 Meter to 70 meter ships) + 20 Turkish coast guard ships total of 28 ships added for coast guard duties and be done with the process

There are ample Sea vessals available in free second handmarket , and these ships offer ample size and operational capabilities.

However slowness in buying or neglection in buying is a problem

If every Pakistani budget had allocated 70-80 Million for Coast guard machinery purchase (Second hand) it is not difficult to see how second hand ships would been purchased long time ago instead of waiting for a small tiny boat from USA after 3-4 year of time waste

I would have opted for purchase approval for 8 used ships of decent size in used market

Total Cost : 75 Million
Refurbishment (Paint / Cleaning / Interior cleanup & Paint ): 5 Million allocated in budget

Not sure how much the Turkish Patrol 20 Patrol Boats would cost but it won't extremely out of budget type price





Turkish Fast boats (5 Million per ship x 20) = 100 Million

We have 2-3 Ships of this type we call it MRTP fast attack boats etc but this platform is also suitable for Coast guard role


Seems big enough to save 100 people at sea
