KARACHI - The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday said it would drag the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) to court for unconstitutionally appointing Justice (r) Alvi as caretaker chief minister (CM) of Sindh.
The announcement was made by PML-N Sindh President Justice (r) Ghaus Ali Shah in a press conference at his residence in Karachi. Flanked by party members such as Marvi Memon, Saleem Zia, Syed Nihal Hashmi, Irfanullah Khan Marwat and Akber Ali Gujjar, the PML-N leader said both the PPP and the MQM had adopted an unconstitutional path to appoint Alvi.
He said how could a person having a very close relationship with the PPP during the last five years be expected to ensure free and fair elections in the province.
He said the PPP and the MQM had appointed Alvi to obtain desired results in the upcoming elections.
Shah said the real opposition in the Sindh Assembly was the PML-F and the slot of the opposition leader should have gone to Nusrat Seher Abbasi of the PML-F. The PPP violated court orders by allocating opposition benches to a party which left treasury benches just 15 days ahead of the dissolution of the assembly, he contended.
The PML-N leader said the court had rejected the inquiry report on collapse of Tori Band prepared by a commission constituted under the chairmanship of Alvi, who had given a clean chit to those responsible for flooding that displaced thousands of people.
Citing media reports on the probable interim cabinet, he said the PPP and MQM would get 60 and 40 percent portfolios, respectively, indicating that the caretaker government would be a continuation of the former government.
Responding to a question, Shah said a petition was being prepared which would be filed in court on Friday (today).
