PML-N leader issues warning to those demanding Sharif family’s accountability

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi has issued a series of warnings to people demanding accountability of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members, Samaa reported.

Nehal Hashmi - in the video - said, "We are the workers of PML-N. All of you who are asking for accountability, we will make a day of accountability for you."

He went on to say that all those who are holding the Sharif family accountable and are demanding accountability of the PML-N family are serving today but will retire tomorrow.

"All of you who are asking for accountability will not be spared," Hashmi said. He added that they will make Pakistan a difficult country for them to live in.

"You are making life of PM Sharif difficult. The Pakistani nation will make life difficult for you," Hashmi said.

Nehal Hashmi, talking exclusively with Samaa TV, said that he did not name anyone in his statements.

"I spoke against those who are trying to stop Pakistan from developing," he said.

PML-N Senator Nehal Hashmi, in a recorded video circulated widely on Wednesday, lashed out at "those investigating" Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons in the Panama Papers case, warning that they will be "taken to task" for their grilling of the respondents in the investigation.

Hussain Nawaz, the elder son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had on Tuesday appeared before a Supreme Court-appointed joint investigation team (JIT) probing the Panama Papers case. He was reportedly grilled by the JIT members for almost five hours at the National Judicial Academy.

Earlier, the PM’s elder son had objected to the inclusion of two members — Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s Bilal Rasool and State Bank of Pakistan’s Amer Aziz — in the JIT, accusing them of being close to the PML-N’s political rivals. However, his objections were turned down by the Supreme Court.

"We are not going to remove any JIT member on mere conjecture unless something concrete comes up because the prime minister is the one being investigated," Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, who heads the three-judge implementation bench of the Supreme Court, said.

Following Hussain's interrogation on Tuesday, PML-N leaders had held a press conference, once again accusing two members of the JIT of harassing the prime minister's son during the apex court's probe of the Sharif family's business dealings abroad.

In a video, which appears to be connected to the PML-N's accusations of impartiality, Hashmi warned: "Those who are scrutinising them [Sharif and his sons], we will not spare you."

"Those grilling [the family] ... [be warned that] we will arrange the day of judgment for you."

"You are making the life of the prime minister difficult; the Pakistani nation will make it difficult for you to live," he added, without taking any names.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, speaking on behalf of the PML-N, later said that the party does not support what Hashmi said and that it was his "personal opinion", Radio Pakistan reported.

She said the prime minister believes in accountability, adding that he has sought an explanation from Hashm for his remarks.

DawnNews reported Wednesday afternoon that Hashmi's membership of the PML-N had been suspended and a show-cause notice had been issued to him for his remarks.

Aurangzeb said the prime minister had also asked Hashmi to hand in his resignation from his Senate seat.
