May 05, 2013 Our Staff Reporter
PML-N President Nawaz Sharif says his party has completed a comprehensive plan to rid the country of the crippling power crisis.
He said his party does not believe in hollow promises but takes practical steps to deliver on its promises.
Addressing his party workers here Saturday, the former prime minister said the PML-N has a team of experts to carry out programmes for the progress and prosperity of the nation and make it live in the world with respect and dignity. Unlike PPP, which looted the national assets and public exchequer over the last five years, the PML-N has completed thorough economic planning to overcome the power shortage, end unemployment and move the wheel of industry and agriculture. He said the PML-N team for water and power is set to completely end electricity shortage in three years and provide foundation for meeting the future energy needs on permanent basis.
The PML-N president said his party believes in giving the benefits of development to the common. After returning to power, he said, the PML-N will generate innumerable job opportunities by initiating projects in the power sector. The former prime minister said overcoming the shortfall of just 6000mw is not a big problem as it can be done through reform in Nepra only. But, he said, the target of this party will be to go far ahead of that and use means of solar, biomass, coal and small hydel schemes to generate more and more power to cater to the future needs. On coming to power, he said, his party will also introduce net metering system and carry out privatization of the distribution companies converting them into corporations. He said in order to generate cost-effective electricity, gas supply to the power producing companies will be ensured and the poor will be provided CNG and LPG on concession.
The power plants running on furnace oil will be shifted to coal and federal and the provincial cooperation will be promoted for the purpose of developing new power plants, he said.
