PM proposes three names for caretaker premiere

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has replied to the letter of opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan regarding caretaker set up.

According to PM House spokesman, the prime minister in his letter proposed three names which included Dr Hafeez Shaikh, Dr Ishrat Husain and Justice (retd) Hazar Khan Khoso for the position of caretaker premiere.

The opposition leader had already nominated the names of Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan, Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Rasool Bux Palejo for caretaker PM post.

It is expected that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will soon meet Opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar for consultations over the caretaker prime minister.

Abdul Hafeez Shaikh

Abdul Hafeez Shaikh hails from Jacobabad, Sindh and earned his doctorate from the Boston University in the US. He has served as a professor at the Harvard University and has worked at the World Bank.

He is recognized as an expert in the field of economics. Shaikh has been associated with Finance in Pakistan during periods of both dictatorship and democracy.

He returned to Pakistan after the dismissal of the Nawaz Sharif government and was appointed the Finance Minister in the provisional Sindh government. Shaikh later served as the minister of privatisation in the government of Shaukhat Aziz.

Shaikh was appointed as the Finance Advisor in the cabinet of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and was later made minister when he was elected from Jacobabad.

He was nominated for the Senate by the PPP and was appointed in 2012
Shaikh also came under the Supreme Court’s decision in the dual nationality case.

He resigned from the Finance Ministry amid reports that he would be appointed caretaker prime minister.

Dr Ishrat Husain

Dr Ishrat Husain is a PH.D in economics from Boston University. In 1964 he joined the Civil Service of Pakistan later moving to Washington in 1979 where he joined the World Bank as an economist.

He has served as the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan from 2 December 1999 to 1 December 2005. The Banker magazine also named his as the Central Bank Governor of the Year in Asia (2005) and he was the first Pakistani to receive the award.

Dr Husain is currently serving as the Dean and Director of the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi.

Justice (retd) Hazar Khan Khoso

Justice (retd) Hazar Khan Khoso was born in the village of Azam Khan in Jaffarabad in 1929.

He graduated from the University of Sindh in 1954 and was passed his LLB in 1956 from the University of Karachi.

He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court on 13 December, 1989 and retired on 29 September, 1991.

After retirement, he was appointed as Judge of Federal Shariat Court in 1991 and was elevated as Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court on 17 November 1992. He held this position till 18 July 1994.

From 19 July 1994 till 29 September 1996 he served as an ad-hoc judge of the Supreme Court.

In my humble opinion "Dr Ishrat Husain" is the best in the list...... a BIG NO for Hafeez Shaikh:hang2:
