Hasina orders Bangladesh officials to rush aid for flood-hit people in Myanmar

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a huge humanitarian gesture has ordered emergency relief supplies for the flood-affected people of Myanmar, with whom Bangladesh has strained relations.


Bangladesh has sheltered thousands of Rohingya people who fled sectarian violence at their homes in the Rakhine state. The Myanmar authorities refuse to recognise these Muslim minority people as their citizens.

This has been a major irritant in the relations between Dhaka and Naypyidaw for long.

But Bangladesh has decided to come to the aid of the people in this time of humanitarian crisis.

More than 250,000 people have been affected and 69 killed by flooding triggered last week by monsoon rains, according to the southeast Asian country’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

A state of emergency was declared after the rains displaced tens of thousands of people, flooded vast swathes of paddy field and prompted fears of dams collapsing.

Hasina directed officials to send the aid immediately, her office said in a statement.

The assistance would include emergency life-saving medicines and kits, water purification tablets, blankets and tents, among others.

“These emergency relief goods will be shipped to Yangon by Biman Bangladesh Airlines at the earliest,” the PMO said.

Bangladesh has a duty to assist to the best of our abilities where we can and have done so from hurricane catrina in US to water crisis in Maldives.

Burma being next door we should go above and beyond. BD maintains large reserves of emergency aid and huge logistics chain and manpower dealing with natural disasters. These should be offered to Burma.

BD government is full of hypocrites who will go out their way to help the f-ckers who are torturing an ethnic minority who have done nothing wrong when our brothers and sisters are crying for their life so much that a distant country has to come (Turkiye) Yes it occurred in Mandalay, is there a sizable Roingyan pop there?

So what's wrong with that, as I said the majority of the disaster took palce in Sagaing, not Rakhine so the people there have nothing to do with Rohingya.
In Mandalay there is a community of Burmese Indians and some of them are Muslim. Not sure about Rohingya there no information on that.
