LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered razing walls of Punjab Governor House in Lahore, provincial Information Minister Fayyazul Hasan Chohan said Saturday.

Speaking to media outside the chief minister's residence, Chohan said the prime minister visited the provincial headquarters today, during which he reviewed performance of the provincial government.

The minister said that PM Khan expressed satisfaction over Punjab government's performance.

He noted that previously, the expenses of Chief Minister Secretariat were Rs5.5 million monthly, which has now been reduced to Rs0.8 million.

Chohan said the governor's residence was not a historic place, but an office, adding that the premier has ordered demolishing its walls.

"The decision would be acted upon in the next 48 to 72 hours," he said.

The provincial minister further said the premier expressed concerns over transfers and postings of officials, warning that none of the ministers should have a part in this.

Claiming that previously-made price control committees were formed on political basis, he said the newly-constituted committees will perform better.

I don't see the need for this unless the walls are replaced with more attractive metal fencing.

. .
Its better to replace current walls with more open fence.
I hate how in Pakistan they build these ugly walls everywhere. In UK and I am sure it will be same in Norway walls are far more attractive. They are tend to be built of stone or quality brick and age beautiifully but even then mostly the walls tend to be barely 2 feet off the ground and then have wrought iron fencing with fantastic artistic look to it. It enables the view to be kept yet provide a barrier. Even the cheaper industrial fencing is better then the cracked, concrete, discoloured walls that block out everything that you see in Pakistan which would not even pass muster in a prison.

This is just another gimmick, last time everyone did saw how AWAM treated Governor house when it was open for public.
People need to be disciplined but that's not a justification for walls and reminding the people of the slavery and colonial times. It should be in fact converted into a university and governor should shift in a smaller but more modern home in some good area.

There is no need to argument with these lost souls. No matter what IK does, criticism awaits.

.
I think if wall not cause trouble to public no need to demolish it as huge money was spend to make it

Walls, high walls particularly adds to the clutter and restricts open views and vistas. Like any green wooded area and a colonial building behind high walls is invisible to the pedestrians and motorists alike...

Also this is a symbolic thing as well...

Stupid nation. When IK fulfill his election promise, you call it gimmick. When he doesn't, you call it U Turn. Damn if you, damn if you don't.

There are things more important then that, case of Sharifs and Zardaris, but i guess Mauka Mauka.

Promises made, Promises fulfilled.
Of course, as for the people our PM refers to as "Colonised Minds" won't understand the importance of this gesture.
