PM Nawaz urges Ban Ki-moon for plebiscite in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on the sidelines of the 70th UNGA Session in New York, where he urged for a plebiscite in Kashmir, stressing on the need for implementation of the United Nation’s Security Council resolution in this regard.

The premier also raised the issue of tensions between Pakistan and India, including ceasefire violations on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary.

Nawaz Sharif urged the UN chief to play a role in putting to halt ceasefire violations along the LoC. He also called for the strengthening of United Nations Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).

Ban expressed concern on tensions between Pakistan and India and offered his good offices for dialogue between the two arch rivals.

The UN chief appreciated Pakistan’s active role in the United Nations and its various bodies, particularly in peacekeeping. He lauded Pakistan's role in the fight against terrorism.

The prime minister briefed the secretary general about his domestic priorities and Pakistan's fight against terrorism.

Nawaz said Pakistan seeks to build a new relationship with Afghanistan and hopes that the reconciliation process in Afghanistan resumes soon. He said Pakistan will be ready to assist in the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

The UN secretary general also commended the premier for choosing a female ambassador to the UN.

The premier is currently in New York to attend the 70th United Nations General Assembly session, where his address is scheduled for Sept 30.

However, here at the UN headquarters Mr. Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman, in a statement, only said that during their meeting “the Secretary-General stressed the necessity for Pakistan and India to continue their peaceful dialogue”.

The statement said that they also discussed “the fight against terrorism and violent extremism” and that Mr. Ban Ki-moon also asked Pakistan “to continue engaging Afghanistan in order to help stabilise the country”.

Because India is happy with status quo and more concerned about sorting things out internally and bringing economic prosperity within each part of India by working together (within India). Basically we want to raise a wall to stop any interaction with you so that we can actually focus.

Because India is happy with status quo and more concerned about sorting things out internally and bringing economic prosperity within each part of India by working together (within India). Basically we want to raise a wall to stop any interaction with you so that we can actually focus.

Please tell your leadership to stop laying claims on Pakistan side of Kashmir then, you lay claims yet you avoid the issue. Make things clear, India has agreed to UN resolutions, best thing would be to let the locals decide. It should be India engaging Pakistan for talks, not the other way around. The frustration on Indian side is quite amusing.
