An Australian reporter and her cameraman have been assaulted by riot police in Washington DC, prompting Prime Minister Scott Morrison to ask Australia's embassy in the capital to investigate.

Reporter Amelia Brace and her cameraman Tim Myers, from 7News, were assaulted by riot police during a live cross this morning as crowds were forced back from the White House.

Footage shows Mr Myers being hit with a riot shield and then punched in the face, and as the pair move back Ms Brace is struck with a police truncheon.

The pair both repeatedly identified themselves as members of the media.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison spoke to President Donald Trump this morning, prior to the assault.

It is understood that upon learning of the incident, Mr Morrison asked the Australian Embassy in Washington to investigate the circumstances around the footage.

This morning, Leader of the Opposition Anthony Albanese said it was unacceptable for Australian media to be hurt while doing their job.

"In a democratic society, the role of the media is critical and it's important that the media are able to report on events, including crises such as we're seeing in the United States, free from harassment," said Mr Albanese.

"And the violence that has occurred towards members of the media, Australian media and domestic media as well, with tear gas being fired, with media being assaulted, is completely unacceptable."

I don't think he dares to ruffle his master's feathers!

EXCELLENT.
Good example for Hong Kong Police to follow.
Hong Kong TERRORIST RIOTERS and REPORTERS should have no complaints since it is following the practice in the land they WORSHIP.
