New Delhi: The national vice-president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr Navjot Dahiya has called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘super spreader’ and blamed for the second wave of COVID-19.
“While the medical fraternity is trying hard to make people understand mandatory COVID norms, Prime Minister Modi did not hesitate to address big political rallies tossing all COVID norms in the air,” Dr Dahiya told The Tribune.
Despite the severity of the health crisis, election rallies and religious congregations like the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar continued, raising questions over the seriousness of Modi-led Union government to tackle the spread of the deadly virus, the top official of the IMA further said.
“The scarcity of medical oxygen has become the reason for the death of many patients in every part of the country against the fact that several projects for installing the oxygen are still pending with the Union government for clearance, but no heed was given to such an important need by the Modi government,” he added.

He told the Tribune that the impact of the pandemic was clearly visible across the country with bodies piling up in crematoriums and long queues of ambulances outside hospitals in almost every city of the country.
Hitting out at the prime minister for passing the buck of its failure on the private medical sector and state governments, Dr Dahiya told the daily: “Even on the issue of farmers’ agitation against farm laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not act in a responsible manner and let the presence of huge gathering of farmers allowed without solving their issues, causing a serious threat of COVID spread.
Global news outlets have also widely criticised Modi and his government’s handling of the second wave of COVID-19 in India.
Over the past 24 hours, India recorded 3,23,144 new cases, slightly below a worldwide peak of 3,52,991 reached on Monday. The coronavirus death toll in the country neared two lakh with another 2,771 fatalities reported on Tuesday.

This is not Modi's fault. This is democracy's fault. If Modi halted religious festivals like this, maybe there would not be big outbreak but he would disappointe voters.

Most people are stupid and short sighted. Democracy requires politicians to please these stupid people and carry out stupid policies.

Essentially right. Let me qualify further the specific problem: democracy only works where a population is educated and sensible. If the electorate are stupid by nature, illiterate, deliberately deceived by malevolent design, then democracy will always result in this debacle. Indian elitist society has always been susceptible to this, and it always will be because it remains a society centred around servitude of a privileged few - the privilege is so ingrained that it is even codified in religion.

So you are saying that democracy is a collective stupidity of a nation ruling the masses.

Please correct me if i'm wrong, lately Imran Khan also opened borders for Indians to have their festivities in Pakistan and as a result thousands of Indians poured in and were released in public without conducting a COVID test!

I think Modi is super in everything he does including virus spreading, he can easily cross 6 meter barrier when he releases air from his 56" lungs, reaching millions in the crowd of his election rallies.
