Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday visited Afghanistan Inter-Ministerial Coordination Cell (AICC) to chair the first Apex Committee meeting of the newly established forum.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf, and senior civil and military officers also attended the meeting.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said that PM Imran Khan approved the humanitarian assistance package for Afghanistan during the meeting, wherein the ongoing Afghan crisis and various measures Pakistan has been promising to help its neighbour cope with the hard times were approved.

During the meeting, all the stakeholders were directed to make efforts for the facilitation of the Afghans to the maximum and in-principle tariff and sales tax reduction on key Afghan exports to Pakistan was approved.

"PM Imran Khan ordered the immediate shipment of in-kind humanitarian assistance worth Rs5 billion, comprising food commodities [...], emergency medical supplies, winter shelters and other supplies."
The statement said that PM Imran Khan has directed to continue the provision of free-of-charge vaccination against COVID-19 to the Afghans crossing land borders.

During the meeting, the decision to allow the transportation of 50,000 megatons of wheat via Pakistan, under the assistance offered by India on humanitarian grounds, as soon as the two countries finalise the modalities.
The prime minister announced to facilitate the return of Afghans who had travelled to India for medical treatment.

Earlier, at the outset of the meeting, AICC convener and NSA Moeed Yusuf welcomed PM Imran Khan to the meeting and delivered a detailed presentation on the current economic situation in Afghanistan and the committee's progress in coordinating national efforts for helping the neighbouring country in dealing with the crisis.

The premier appreciated the work of the AICC in coordinating Pakistan's policy and expressed satisfaction with the improved border management protocols.

He ordered the enhancement of border staff's capacity and directed that no arbitrary closures of borders for trade should be allowed.

Moreover, the prime minister also ordered the revival of bus service between Peshawar and Jalalabad to facilitate travellers on both sides.

The meeting decided that the visa duration will be relaxed for Afghans "such that visas are granted within three weeks at the most".

Meanwhile, the participants of the meeting expressed concerns regarding the worsening Afghan crisis and stressed not abandoning the Afghans in their time of need.

IK should be sent to afghanistan as humanitarian assistance, they need your wisdom more.

How about feed your own people in thar first??? who are dying of thirst/starvation.

so sain log can grab that assistance, happens verytime

5 Billion rupees is less than $30 million dollars, but it shows Pakistan is contributing what it can dispute its own tough position. A good initiative by the PM to pre-empt global donors when they are asked to contribute. Besides, sending food to Afghanistan is better then accepting more refugees crossing into Pakistan. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Indians trying to nuke Afghanistan with wheat?

Maybe the USA could contribute with a couple of billions of dollars? If you can spend billions, if not trillions
destabilizing countries you can sure spend a couple billion dollars to help them.

NSA is finance minister of Afghanistan?

That's awesome, thank you dear neighbors & IK for doing this. This good deed is a blessing

If a few billion rupees.. and allowing Indian wheat after taliban request.. if it can keep taliban to play our cards or mainly our cards during talk with TTP..
Then it's money we'll spent.
The best way to get rid of the TTP menace is a peace deal now and tightening of screws in the years to come.

People who are criticising this should also knows that after Aug 15, Pakistan exports to Afghanistan has increased by $180 millions in just 3 months. So things are pretty much in favor for us. Exports to Afghanistan will rise up by $1.5 billions in an year time.
