PM calls for amendments in anti-terrorism law

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has called for amendments in anti-terrorism law in accordance with the guidelines given by superior judiciary.

He was addressing a high level meeting on national security and law and order in the country at Raiwind in Lahore Saturday.

The Prime Minister issued directions for immediate blocking of all illegal SIMs across the country.
DG Rangers briefed the meeting on law and order situation in Karachi.

The Prime Minister directed that more steps should be taken to restore peace and tranquility in Karachi so that confidence of the people is restored.

The meeting is set to review law and order in the country in general, with special focus on Karachi issue and upcoming APC.

Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, DG IB, DG Rangers, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, and others are among the participants of the meeting.

RAIWIND: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a high-level meeting in Raiwind to discuss the country’s law and order situation, Express News reported on Saturday.

During the meeting, Kayani briefed on the law and order situation of Karachi and Balochistan.

Nawaz was also informed about the recent targeted operations being carried out in Karachi. He also appreciated the rigorous efforts being made to establish peace in the city.

It was also agreed that the government and the army will work together to tackle the menace of terrorism.

The prime minister ordered that measures should be taken to block all unauthorised SIMs, and talks should be held with the telecommunication agencies.

The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Pervaiz Rasheed, Khawaja Zaheer, Zahid Hamid and Chaudhry Qamar Zaman, among other provincial ministers, heads of agencies and federal ministers.

The government will hold its first all parties’ conference (APC) on Monday to evolve a national consensus on proposed talks with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

PM Nawaz and his cabinet members will present a proposed roadmap for engagement to representatives of all parliamentary parties during the APC.

PM favours dialogue as priority option to curb terrorism

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Monday said he considered dialogue as the priority option to curb terrorism in the country.
Addressing the political leaders at the All Parties Conference (APC) convened at the PM House to discuss security issues, he said his party had always stressed serious efforts for dialogue in the previous APCs as well. Nawaz Sharif said the solution to address the terrorism issue would be sorted out with consensus after thorough deliberations by the participants. He said it was the need of the hour for all political forces in the country to shun politicking on issues of national importance such as terrorism and energy crisis, and join hands to address them unanimously.

“We have to rise above politics on some issues and develop a national consensus for the sake of this country,” the Prime Minister told the political leaders.

Nawaz Sharif said together, this would prove as the “best step” for the country and added that everybody needed to work on warfooting in this regard.
“If we get rid this country of terrorism and extremism, we would become a strong nation of the 21st century,” he said.

He said that he had also directed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to extend cooperation to provinces to ensure their better coordination with the federal government on security issues.

The fight against militancy had resulted into loss of lives of thousands ofinnocent civilians and military troops.It also faced huge financial setback as the businessmen were reluctant to invest, said the Prime Minister.

On law and order situation in Karachi,he expressed satisfaction that all majorpolitical parties including Pakistan Peoples Party and Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) gave their consent for a targetted operation.

The Prime Minister said it was a test for the democracy to deliver results in shape of peace and a strong economy.

“If we will continue to take decisions with consensus, the people will have more trust on democracy.”

Nawaz Sharif said the country’s history witnessed unprecedented smooth democratic transition as the new government took over and a president left the Presidency with honour and prestige.

Later, Director General ISI Lt.Gen Zaheerul Islam briefed the participants of the APC on security situation in the country.

2- Why did the meeting (not APC) take place in Raiwind? It is a meeting of the top honchos in Pakistan FFS, not a party meeting.

I would agree with you but will also add there needs to be a will and a consensus of its citizens that this indeed is its own problem and that it needs to be eliminated/resolved once and for all.

Nothing will come up, biggest hurdle will be PTI and JUI ,,,unfortunately some major political parties shelter terrorist and some have their own terror wings. But army is really pushing hard this time, ISI had breifing yesterday during all parties conference. Something is " big wrong " in Pakistan right now and army call them for warning.

They have no guts to do this. They were going to hang terrorist. But when TTP says that we will kill 2 politicians and they can be Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, then they didn't do it just because of their protection.
