The above posted pictures are not villages by any definition. Towns maybe. I hope next you will keep updating this thread by posting pictures of villages too (as the thread title says) . I think villages should not have 3+ floor buildings and adequately spaced.

These were villages, that slowly turned into towns and now slowly turning into cities. Just like Shenzhen a small fishing village which is now a Mega Silicon City.

What I am saying is, villages should remain and exist. Modernized and developed YES. But still a village. There is a reason why US is preferring suburb.

We have a 1.4 billion population. Suburbs doesn't work for us. Imagine trying to accommodate every family in China in suburbs.
In the coastal areas and the economic heartland your premise holds true. But not every where. Actually, I have travelled extensively in Shanxi province and small towns like Baoji have transformed very well with a neat down-town area with malls and shopping districts as well as neat suburbs with exquisitely beautiful town homes located in the surrounding hills. This is pretty much the way the small towns are configured in the USA.
Xinjiang province is similar and single and double floor homes have been retained.
There is a loss though. The traditional Hutongs that had close neighbors and joint family relationships are gone forever. So are the colorful family bath houses.
That is social engineering. China has done a remarkable job creating single family homes, employment and housing for all !
Congratulations China !

China’s top thousand towns are basically the same as cities. The four towns below Dongguan City I just posted are only ranked in the top 20 among the top 1,000 towns in China.https://www.sohu.com/a/381409250_100270888
------------------------The ordinary countryside you want to see
There are 44,821 townships in China

Cities have population density of 4000+ per square KM. But I am sure China is not planning to have 100% urban population in any time in near future. You will still want rural areas. But they will be developed. The high-rises does not appear in villages and if they do it's not a village any more. I am just saying don't bury the village lifestyle, which I am sure China isn't doing anyways. So we are good. Just wanted the OP to share some "real villages" here too along with these developed townships.

Rural areas in China are divided into four levels: developed, more developed, ordinary and backward. Except for backward villages, villages of several other levels have more than three-story houses. In fact, these different levels of village levels and leadership positions are the same. The townships in the eastern coastal provinces of China are relatively developed, the townships in the central region are more developed or ordinary, and the towns in the western region are ordinary or a little behind. This is related to the regional environment.
I will post some pictures of ordinary villages later :coffee:

China still has a huge gap of development between its cities and villages. Hopefully living standards in small towns and villages will also experience modernization and improvement.
