TUNIS (TAP) - A Libyan military plane crashed in the early hours of Friday (1.30 AM) in a farmland in Nianou, (province of Grombalia in the governorate of Nabeul,) killing all 11 passengers , including 6 crew, 3 patients and 2 accompanying people, said Defence Ministry Spokesman Taoufik Rahmouni.
He added that the crew, in a last communication with the control tower of Tunis Carthageairport, had said that the engine was on fire.
National Army Units, a military medical team as well as disaster and emergency services teams have been dispatched to the site of the crash.
The Defence Ministry Sspokesman also said that they were looking for the black box of the Antonov aircraft.

Defence Ministry Spokesman Taoufik Rahmouni told TAP news agency on Friday morning that the Air Force is carrying on, in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority, its search for the black box to know the reasons of the Libyan military rescue plane crash in the early hours of Friday in Nianou (province of Grombalia/governorate of Nabeul) that killed all the 11 passengers.
Rahmouni added that " only the Libyan side is entitled to check the identities of the victims".
The bodies of the 11 passengers have been taken to Tunis Charles Nicolle Hospital for autopsy and to determine the identity of the victims through DNA tests.

NABEUL (TAP) - The chargé d'affaires of Libya's Embassy in Tunis Mokhtar Salem Drira denied news that members of Al-Qaida were among the victims of the Libyan military rescue plane that crashed in the early hours of Friday in the province of Grombalia (governorate of Nabeul).
In a statement to the press, the Libyan diplomat who went to the site of the crash , said that "two injured civilians were on board the aircraft on their way to Tunis for medical treatment".
The plane crew includes 5 people , in addition to a doctor and three patients' companions , he added.
The Libyan military Antonov (An-26) plane is an air ambulance meant for civilians and servicemen, the Libyan diplomat declared.
