Philippines considers two-way sea talks with China - if wins case at The Hague
MANILA

The Philippines may consider two-way talks with China to resolve a territorial dispute in the South China Sea but only if it wins its case with Beijing at an arbitration tribunal in The Hague, Manila's foreign minister said on Friday.

China claims almost the entire South China Sea, believed to have huge deposits of oil and gas. Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Taiwan also claim the waterways where about $5 trillion of ship-borne goods passes annually.

China refuses to recognize the case lodged by the Philippines with the tribunal and says all disputes should be resolved through bilateral talks.

Philippine Foreign Minister Albert del Rosario, who has resigned effective next month due to health reasons, said the court may hand down a ruling before May.

"A bilateral approach per se is good," del Rosario said in a television interview, three years after Manila filed the case in The Hague, rejecting Beijing's offer of two-way talks.

"When the conclusion of the arbitration is handed down, and if it is in our favor, I think we should initiate a bilateral because we already have a platform by which we can solidly approach the negotiating table. If it's not in our favor, they will approach us."

I told you @TaiShang ; the Filipinos will give in to compromise. Patience is key here.

Beijing walker need to stop posting videos/articles just for the sake of posting.

This is vital news. When Manila restores warm relations with Beijing, then this will help in normalcy in the SCS region.

No it's not. China never agreed to the tribunal so it's counterproductive. Philippines were tricked by the Vietnamese to launch this useless case against China.

They should have gone with bilateral cooperation and reaching a compromise with the Chinese. Tho I estimate they were egged on by Washington state actors.

My guess is that with the looming 2016 elections in Manila and with the two contenders (Duterte and Binay) being pro-China --- the Philippines will apply a new policy with Beijing. This is good. Let's focus more on trade and development instead of unproductive argumentation.

What say you @Cossack25A1 @Zero_wing

Duterte would make a good local government secretary not a good president and binay is corrupt politician both have little or no idea of foreign policy or running a country President Aquino is good president but he has a lot of mistakes but a majority of his policies had help the country but his executions a majority of it is epic fail but in the current line up i still vote for him as President but sadly the present constitution only allows Presidents to run for 1 term which is stupid article but it was made after Marcos so that's that so far in the line up only Grace Po and Mar Roxas has the right attitude and ideas but i don't like Mar Roxas he' not President material a good trade secretary but not a good in anything else an example is the way he handle himself in the senate and as DILG Secretary he would carry on the policies of President Aquino all well in good but he never improve it or worse make things worse again going on his past records but he has great insights on the Economic front being from the banking sector but the rest not so good for the country if his President. Grace on the other hand is fresh blood and so far popular but she facing disqualification due to citizenship issues i think this is politically motivated to throw her out of the race but she has some great ideas on improving things for the country like social, economic and transport being in the senate transport committee were she is active but as of late she never co authored any bills or created bill that became law that's a main job of legislator and she failed on that part but she made her position clear on the issue i mention and she is so far as forward key filipino issue like the protection of our sovereignty from china and other claimants even though her idea is bit different from what the present administration is doing but she is so far made more sense then the other politicians, development industries the things i mention and things left over by the President Aquino so she may improve these key areas that President Aquino left over or neglected. Presidents of the Philippines must concentrate on National Defense, Civil Defense, Health, Education, Infrastructure so far only those two came close on those things well little close.

Whether we have US' backing or not, we would still go to an International Tribual.

At present, we have two pro-China president, one candidate that would continue what Aquino started, a newbie and one being "uncertain" due to health concerns.

In fact , actually Binay, Duterte and Roxas have working relationship with the CFCC and the NIkkeijin Kai Association in your country. Through Nikkeijin Kai strong Japan - Philippine bidirectional cooperation have taken place specially in peace process in Mindanao as well as multifaceted investment projects . As well as to spearhead the rights of Japanese-Filipinos (I think some 110,000) are in the country. The CFCC (Chinese filipino chamber of commerce ) is actually a Huaren organization that diversified economic production in Manila and is conduit for Taipei and Beijing to enter Manila's economic belt and eventually political process. In fact NIkkeijin Kai and CFCC cooperate hand in hand in Philippines.

So , whatever the case , whatever leader wins we hope to see continued growth and cooperation between NIkkeijin Kai and CFCC.

Win Win for Japanese, Chinese and Pinoys. :)

US backing is political verbiage; nothing more. Real tangible growth is through Japan and China. Through trickle down oriented growth that affects every crevice of our dear Philippine nation friends.

Look like after much barking, they decide to come back to us.

The discussion is based on condition that "Nine Dashed Claim" is meaningless following the decision of international court.

Hahaha you totally miss the whole point too bad for you
I feel pity for a pinoy. There is nothing funny about this. LOL

We always said bilateral negotiation is the best option and that we were right all along.
