Women can’t live alone in rented flats: Peshawar admin

PESHAWAR: The district administration has barred women from living alone in rented houses and flats owing to the rising incidents of murder of women in the provincial capital. The property dealers and owners of housing units have been asked to strictly adhere to the orders failing which a strict action will be taken against them. The new orders were issued after the murder of 26 women in 2009 and in the first month of the current year. They were all living alone in rented houses and flats situated in different parts of the provincial metropolis. According to the statistics, six women were killed in Shanwari Sarai, five in Hayatabad and five in other areas of the city. online

Wow ....genius...what a way to solve the increasing crime against women...Punish women to prevent crime against them....

Just say what you feel about it...Disgusted like me....oppose the move...in favor of the move etc etc...

I don't support this move its not going to solve this issue but they have been forced to take this step...

Its a crime to be born a female :disagree:

Shame on me....

I live in Peshawar Hayatabad and i know many women living alone. And i heard no news of women getting killed. And why order women to not live alone. Why not arrest those murderers.

Don't know whether you really meant the bolded part but I was pained. I thank God that India does not make such cruel and stupid laws and hope in future too it doesn't have to make, whatever be the reason. And I certainly hope that I never treat a woman in a way that she would have to make a statement like that.

A difficult decisions but look at the scenario. Paksitan is fighting a war and Peshawar is one of the badly affected cities in all that. Lowering the river instead of rising the bridge sounds stupid in peaceful circumstances but when it is not presently possible to rise the bridge, should we not budge at all or better take the measures to get the situation in control. I would not support this decisions as a rule for ever but for now, it might prove helpful in providing security to the ones who are consistency being attacked.

India is not in the state of war neither it is facing mindless radicals like TTP. Its not the situation in which you could compare yourself with cities like Peshawar and FATA. So wait and find a better reason to prove India a better place for women.

If you read my post, I never said that India is a safer/better place for women than any other south asian country. What I did say was that the government does not make such laws. As for your other point regarding TTP and other radicals, look at Sri Lanka. LTTE during its heydays were far more powerful than TTP still I dont think they ever made such stupid laws.

I don't think that LTTE had a religion-driven agenda to keep women in their place as do these Salafi guys .....

In NWFP it seems like there is only on way to govern, ban this, ban that, restrict this, restrict that.

This government has been more chilled about the bannings but they haven't officially lifted any of the old bans as well.

Have the geniuses in ANP devised a plan where would these women go?
