Pentagon: Iran, Russia, Pakistan Continue to Support Afghan Taliban

hmm so what makes you think USA will fight a war with Pakistan?
Perhaps not.

But every Pakistani should pray for the safety of Pakistan these days. American threats cannot be taken lightly for long. Chest-thumping in this forum notwithstanding, panic has started to set-in and even politicians are scrambling for discussions.

US is in "aggression mode" since 9/11 with no sign of fatigue or end to its rampage and it is eyeing both Pakistan and North Korea at present. US has lot of power and resources and might have the capacity to wage more wars in years to come but this is a completely irrational foreign policy on its part.

Pakistan has limited resources and has almost reached the point of fatigue in its War on Terror after scores of operations. Now, Pakistan is telling US to 'do more' in Afghanistan instead of accusing Pakistan for facilitating certain terror-networks. Rightfully so.

Look bro! Pakistan is a powerful country in its own right and has accomplished a lot in a short span. However, there are limits to what Pakistan can achieve in the battlefield and what kind of enemy it can take on.

Nonetheless, I don't think it is in the best interests of the US to destroy Pakistan. Completely unwarranted and unnecessary action that will open a new chapter of regional instability and death and destruction in the region.

I believe that Pakistan can leverage its connections with China and motivate China to reason with Trump administration. FYI: Chinese leadership and Trump administration have a working relationship.

Where there is will; there is way.

However, I want to convey this message: https://quran.com/17/37

We should not be proud to the extent that it turns into a negative trait; we are not an unstoppable force on the planet. Allah Almighty dislikes such pride and can arrange for our punishment any time if we do not heed his advice. Remember the 2005 Earthquake?

Panty-Gone should focus more on Rising ISIS in Afghanistan .

Russia, Iran, and Pakistan continue to undermine U.S. interests in Afghanistan by engaging with the Taliban, the most prominent terrorists fighting against American troops in the war-ravaged country, the Pentagon claimed in a new assessment.
In its recently unveiled assessment of security conditions in Afghanistan, which covers the period from June 1 through November 30, the Pentagon notes:

Russia continued to seek ways to undermine U.S. influence in the region by disseminating false information about U.S. objectives, engaging with the Taliban, and putting pressure on Central Asian neighbors to deny support to U.S. and NATO efforts to stabilize Afghanistan.

Iran provides some support to the Taliban and publicly justifies its relationship with the Taliban as a means to combat the spread of ISIS-K [Islamic State -Khorasan] in Afghanistan. Iran’s support to the Taliban undermines the Afghan Government’s credibility, adds to instability in the region, and complicates strategic partnership agreements.

Meanwhile, Pakistan reportedly continues to serve as a sanctuary for Taliban terrorists and other jihadists in the region, which is home to the “highest concentration” of extremists in the world.

“Although Pakistani military operations have disrupted some militant sanctuaries, certain extremist groups—such as the [Afghan] Taliban and the Haqqani Network—retains freedom of movement in Pakistan,” notes the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) in the report. “The United States continues to convey to all levels of Pakistani leadership the importance of taking action against all terrorist and extremist groups.”

The al-Qaeda and Taliban-linked Haqqani Network “remains the greatest threat” against U.S. troops and their allies in Afghanistan, reveals the assessment.

Pentagon officials also describe Pakistan’s support for terrorist groups as a top threat in neighboring Afghanistan.

Alluding to Pakistan, the Pentagon states, “The exploitation of ungoverned sanctuaries outside of Afghanistan by terrorists and Afghan insurgents remains the single greatest external threat to the coalition campaign,” adding:

External sanctuary continues to hamper efforts to bring Afghan Taliban senior leadership to the negotiating table and allows space for terrorist groups like the Haqqani Network to plan coordinated operations against U.S. and coalition forces, the [Afghan forces], and civilians, and enables the Afghan Taliban to rest, refit, and regenerate.

Despite the strained relationship between Iran and the United States, the DOD acknowledges that there is room for cooperation between the two countries on operations to combat the lucrative smuggling of opium and its heroin derivative.

The Pentagon points out:

Iran and the United States share certain interests in Afghanistan such as counternarcotics. However, Iran seeks to expand its influence and limit U.S. influence and military presence, particularly in western Afghanistan.

Although U.S. and Iranian political dynamics are not conducive to direct coordination on areas of mutual interest in Afghanistan, the United States and its Afghan partners could explore ways to leverage Iran’s interests in support of U.S. and Afghan objectives in the areas of counternarcotics, economic development, and counterterrorism.

Nearly one-third of the opium and heroin that moves out of Afghanistan, the world’s top producer of the two deadly drugs, transits through Iran, acknowledged the U.S. military recently.

“About 40 percent of [the Afghan opium and heroin] does go out through Pakistan, about 30 percent through Iran, about 30 percent through the north,” U.S. Gen. John Nicholson, the top commander of American and NATO forces in Afghanistan, told reporters late last month.

Both the United States and Shiite Iran are concerned about the presence of Sunni Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) jihadists in Afghanistan.

ISIS targeted Iran for the first time earlier this year.

Iran and Russia are allegedly concerned about instability in Afghanistan.

“Russia has security concerns regarding Afghanistan, citing terrorism and narco-trafficking concerns most vocally,” notes the DOD report. “Russian-Afghan relations suffered due to Russia’s public acknowledgment of communications with the Taliban and support of the Taliban’s call for coalition withdrawal from Afghanistan.”

Gen. Nicholson has conceded that Iran, Pakistan, and Russia lend support to the Afghan Taliban and has urged them to stop.

The number of effective terrorist attacks in Afghanistan has “slightly” dropped in the last few months, according to the Pentagon.

Citing data from the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), the Pentagon notes, “From June 1 to November 20, 2017, the number of effective enemy-initiated attacks were slightly lower than the previous reporting period (December 2016-May 2017); averaging between 780 per month.”

The attacks are down from “4,806 effective enemy-initiated attacks, with a monthly average of 801” during December 1, 2016, to May 31, 2017.

However, the Pentagon points out that recent gains remain “fragile.”

“The hard-won gains in Afghanistan—by the Afghans, the United States, NATO and the international community—remain fragile, but are worth defending,” reports DOD, later cautioning, “Our commitment is enduring but not unlimited; our support is not a blank check.”

The DOD stressed that the U.S. combat mission remains over, noting that the ANDSF, which includes police and army units, are still leading the fighting.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama ended the combat mission at the end of 2014.

While the Pentagon assessment reveals that the ANDSF’s effectiveness has improved, it concedes that the force is still facing challenges.

all 138 countries support taliban and nikki haley is counting them all on behalf of Trump because his attention span is 20 seconds

US is slowly but gradually building a narrative against Pakistan where another war can be justified this time to eliminate so called sanctuaries inside Pakistan just like so called WMDs in Iraq. And as usual heads of our government and those who matter in making our strategic calculus remains burred in sand.
So how many still want to believe that US is not a threat and the relations between US and Pakistan will never go to a point of conflict?
@war&peace @Irfan Baloch @MastanKhan @blain2 @snow lake @Mrc @Kaptaan @Jungibaaz
USA will use ISIS against Pakistan and will provide it air support like it did for ISIS against Syrian forces

. . .
you do an excellent job of presenting the narrative of the US and putting the fear of mighty US in our little hearts. Who granted the US the license to be the policeman in this world? The US has failed in Syria not won! It has to now drink its own bath water and talk to the man they wanted to oust. Hell even the current POTUS accused of obama admin of supporting isis!
I [absolutely] disagree with the course of American foreign policy since 9/11. However, I am not oblivious to the ground realities of the world.

US is in "aggression mode" since 2001 with virtually no end in sight to its rampage. Afghanistan; Iraq; Libya; Syria - each bore the brunt of American aggression and suffered tremendously consequently. Now, North Korea and Pakistan are in the radar.

Please tell me which country has the resources to go on a rampage in the aforementioned manner and still be in the position to threaten more actors? This implies that US war-fighting capability is largely intact and resources ample.

US did not fail in Syria! Its agenda was to rout ISIS from its territory and it succeeded in this endeavor (i.e. Operation Inherent Resolve). Time and again! I have conveyed this reality to fellow members here, only in vain.

Contrary to the popular belief in this community, Obama administration was not seeking "regime change" in Syria. More importantly, it doesn't takes a genius to figure out the fact that Syria is no match for the US and the latter has made a mockery of the sovereignty of the former under the garb of Operation Inherent Resolve since 2014.

Now, US hasn't destroyed Cuba either; do you think it cannot destroy Cuba? Do not mistake lack of action with lack of capability.

Iraq was a bigger threat than Syria and US succeeded in toppling its regime. Were you sleeping while this happened?

Nonetheless, it is important to understand that toppling regimes is not the way forward. Affected regions become unstable due to power-vacuum and can turn into breeding grounds for terror-networks.

I hope that US does not topple additional regimes to prove its mettle. However, North Korea seems to be on its radar at present. Hopefully Fat Kim will listen to China and exercise restraint.

Many years ago or rather just after 9/11 I had the same outlook on the might of the US and today my reasoning and logic has changed. One day I was among some friends and there was a guy who had mental health issues. We were discussing the US and so on forth. This guy in his simple and straightforward reply said "you are scared of America but not Allah SWT" ..."that is shirk".

This is my outlook presently either live a lifetime of a jackal or live like a Lion for a day! Either be the sheep or be the wolf.

Fear is NO policy! This is me talking for the scenario of Pakistan. As for they can destroy this and that. Picking on nations who are not able to fend themselves truly is chivalrous! Truly home of the brave.

Oh please !!! confessions can be easily extracted with the fear of torture from anyone . Give Ehsanullah Ehsan to India and in 1 day he will say that TTP was created by ISI in front of Indian Television. . If he doesn't say we will peel his flesh from the bones .
IT IS CALLED FORCED CONFESSION UNDER DURESS.

AFGHAN TALIBAN AND TTP are Deobandi Pashtun fanatics why would they listen or work for Hindu India .
They are attacking Pakistan because YOUR President MUSHARAF HELPED USA KILL their bretheren .
you may ask any shia who are behind the killings of shia in Afghanistan & Pakistan .

.
The first mistake is to underestimate your enemy and in this case you are underestimating the worlds sole superpower, seriously? Lets not get ahead of ourselves. If US want to take us out, they very well can and they dont need large conventional forces to do that. For US its always the air dominance which can be achieved by them. Pakistan lacks strategic depth which can result in our assets rather taken out quickly.
The reason i mentioned our heads in sand because after 9/11 when we were threaten to be bombed back to stone age, since than we have done nothing. Yes we have the capability to hit US assets in the region but is it big enough of a threat to stop US from confronting Pakistan in an armed conflict? The answer is No.

Correct.
Except there I don't think Pakistani planners have not figured out the change in US stance, particularly since Obama became the president. I think the nuke program picked up pace drastically--and nukes not only being made faster but also dispersed fast. And this makes it harder to target Pakistan.

Still..USA can destroy Pakistan very quickly. Only China and Russia are truly capable of massive counter actions.

I think Pakistani tilt toward China will accelerate the more America tries to harm Pakistan. I think Pakistan really needs to convince China that Chinese strategic interests will be gravely damaged should Pakistan fall. I think the Pakistani planners should even think of getting strategic depth---even moving some assets--to Iran and China IF there is greater risk of hostile act by America and India combine. I think Pakistan should make it clear that any attack by America will be considered an attack by India on Pakistan. I think Pakistan should create militias to wreak havoc in IoKashmir and Afghanistan in case of a war. The war will finish off Pakistan, as we know it. But, like the mad man Kim of North Korea, a cost can be made so high that war can be prevented.

Trump's America is too unpredictable to rule out anything.

. .
Whatever we say, something bad is cooking up....
Even after our continued assurances and playing by their rules , not letting our soil used for terrorism. They are hell bent on not buying our narrative even when it is true.
It is not like they don't know , they know full well but still blame us.
How difficult was it for U.S to stage another Osama fiasco, bringing in some already dead Taliban leaders and blaming it on us.
We have our army there and we are capable, but are we going to take action against them. Besides we all know about the security of border, we do not have that grand technology, no radars or stuff to counter any advance.
Some analyst are even saying pakistan is expecting something, that's why it is not merging Fata in to kpk. To atleast save face, that the incident didn't happen in settled province but in tribal areas.
Trump is a mad man, he is a laughing stock. As much as you can enjoy his embarrassments, but we must also beware of this hate filled man. He can actually agree to anything his agencies told him.
I hope our army is ready, we have no expectations from political elite , so no worries. Let them fight among themselves or do corruption.... They are not be bothered with these matters .
I hope army is ready. I can smell something strange. On both fronts.
India can also distract us easily, or make us busy in eastern border.

You should not worry about the US. There are very specific reasons why there are threats from US and then Pakistan rejecting them as 'baseless' on almost on a daily basis. In a very, very long time Pakistan is basically raising a middle finger to a Superpower, and this is "deliberate" and not "chest thumping".

There is a deliberate reason why the FO and ISPR issue statements in unison. Unlike the totally incompetent civilians and politicians in Pakistan, the Military and specific Bureaucracy think "strategically", and their actions have "strategic and global implications". There are international heavyweights behind Pakistan and this is being done 'By Design' and not by some random act.

Everything happening Globally is connected to one another. "Order Through Chaos" program is getting a big kick in the back.
