QUETTA - Poverty Eradication Initiative would spend Rs2 billon for the improvement and development of education and health sectors in Balochistan.
At a briefing to Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch here on Monday, PEI chief executive Shahid Yousaf said that PEI is a welfare organisation and wanted to take steps for improvement of education and health sectors of Balochistan. Therefore, he said that Rs2 billion would be spent for development of both sectors and it would lessen the shortage of basic facilities at operation theatres in hospital and increase enrolment in schools.
On the occasion, the CM said that the government would always welcome the organisations working for the welfare of people and development of education and health sectors. He said that the government is especially focusing on the health and education sectors, and would ensure every possible support to welfare organisations and donors. He said that due to the degradation of education sector, a huge dropped out was observed in schools during previous years; however, the government is firm to ensure all basic facilities to students and ensure attendance of teachers in schools.
The CM said that three medical colleges and six universities were being established while 24 per cent increase had been made in the educational budget. He said that Rs1 billion had been allocated for provision of necessary machinery and other equipments to hospital, while operation theatres had been made functional in six district hospitals.
He said that more effective steps were needed to be taken in order to improve enrolment in schools. He assured the representatives of PEI that the current government would ensure transparency as it had pledged to remove embezzlement made by the governments in past. Baloch said that there was no more space for corruption in the province as all resources would be spent through a transparent manner.
Making efforts for public welfare
Balochistan Inspector General Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera said that police department is making efforts for public welfare along with the maintenance of law and order.
Addressing a ceremony at a school here Monday, he said that Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad have taken considerable steps for the promotion of education, adding that the achievement of good positions by students was an evident to the fact that the students and teachers were also equally committed to the cause of education in the province. He said that the students of Balochistan are equally intelligent to all other students living in the country.
Speaking about the police department, he said that it is their foremost duty to maintain law and order.
Additional IG Police Abid Qadri, DIG Headquarters Khalid Mehmood and Regional Police Officer Quetta Arif Nawaz were also present on the occasion.
