Passing-out parade held

Fourteen officers, including three from the Indian Coast Guard passed out from the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology, Kochi after successful completion of the Aeronautical specialisation course.

The Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology is the largest aviation related technical establishment amongst the three services and conducts over 400 training capsules per year. The passing out parade, which marked the culmination of the 52 week course was reviewed by Chief of Staff Rear Admiral G Ashok Kumar at the naval base on Friday.

The Director General Coast Guard Trophy for the best all rounder was awarded to Lt Cdr Rajesh S Rao, who was also adjudged first in the order of merit amongst the Air Electrical Officers. Lt Nitin Manocha was adjudged first in the order of merit amongst Air Engineer Officers and was awarded the HAL trophy. The Venduruthy trophy for the best ATO’s project was awarded to the group comprising Asst Cmdt Rizwan Khan and Lt Deepak Sharma.

Addressing the parade, Rear Admiral Ashok Kumar reminded the officers of the Indian Navy’s responsibility of safe guarding India’s maritime interests. He highlighted the role of Air Technical Officers, which had acquired great significance in the wake of acquisition of fourth and fifth generation aircraft and the proposed induction of the second aircraft carrier Vikramaditya in the near future.

He noted that NIAT was providing state of the art training and preparing the trainees for induction of cutting edge aviation technology platforms. He stated that ATOs constituted perhaps the most qualified specialisation of the Indian Navy. The officers have been appointed to various air squadrons of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard for on-the-job-training.
