Kathmandu: A passenger plane has crashed at Kathmandu's international airport, local media reports said on Monday.

A plane from US-Bangla, a Bangladeshi airline, crashed on the east side of Tribhuvan International Airport's runway, according to the Kathmandu Post.

An airport spokesperson said that casualties were feared.

Photos and video posted on social media also showed smoke rising from an airport runway.
A Nepal-based journalist also posted a picture of the ill-fated plane on Twitter.

At least it crashed before it took off. Means the death toll isn't high. Hope those nepalese are alright

Seriously WTF is going on? Just recently there have been so many crashes!! A Russian plane in Syria, then a Turkish plane in Iran and now this. All in 1 week!!

Air miles and maintenance count, 17 years nothing if plane maintained well.

Probably a bird strike or engine flamed out in case if it crashed during takeoff.

KATHMANDU: A Bangladeshi aircraft carrying 67 passengers and four crew crashed on Monday while coming in to land at the airport in the Nepali capital, Kathmandu, an airport official said.

Rescue workers recovered badly burnt bodies from the wreckage of the aircraft, Reuters witness said. The number of dead and injured was not known. A Reuters photographer said he could see bodies covered in cloth laid out near the tarmac of the airport.

"We are trying to bring the fire under control. Details are awaited," he said, adding that the airport had been shut down and all other flights diverted.

"We're now concentrating on evacuating the passengers."

Television images showed smoke rising from the crash site.

US-Bangla Airlines is a unit of the US-Bangla Group, a U.S. Bangladeshi joint venture company.The Bangladeshi carrier launched operations in July 2014 and operates Bombardier Inc and Boeing aircraft.
