Panicked Rohingyas entering Bangladesh

The same way NE India should be divided from India...

N for myanmar they should watch whether these activity turned towards then... as Rohingyas are on way to be majority in Arakan they should be more careful in this regard...else it may not take much time to break away from it which contain a big amount of oil and gas reserve...

First of all be on topic.Discussion is not on India or North East...
Myanmar will deport them to arab peninsula and the whole land is of Myanmar (R) Myanmar
btw we will also kick out Illegal Bangladeshis from our country.

.
Rohingyas were Bangladeshi slaves and coolies brought/sold to work in Arakan.

3. Arakan was about 70% Muslim when the British left. Now these people have been pushed north nearer BD border. However, the well-to-do have shifted to Rangun where the Muslims are doing well in business. They number around 1.20 mlln out of a total of 4 mlln.

That is non sense. Dig up British era census and look for yourself, or if you want I can dig it up for you.

.
I dunno why but you people seem to be in love with country-breaking.

Your ancestors broke India into 2 parts. Next generation broke Pakistan into 2 parts.
And now, this foolish generation wants to break each country bordering his country.

GREAT...

The hate culture of Kolkata-centric Bangali Hindu Babus was mostly responsible for the upsurge of a muslim nationalism in Begal that created Muslim League in Dhaka after which the fire of this nationalism spread also to other parts of the then India that culminated in the creation of a Muslim majority Pakistan. So, blame those Babus for the partition.

As i have mention in another thread, Burma's democracy is in its infancy state.

When a democracy is in its infancy state, especially as the power is being passed from the military to the people, power vaccums are formed. Ambitious people may try to fill in these power vaccum by employing both ethical and unethical methods.
I think this incident is using hatred against the rohingyas to gain support within certain section of the burmese population.

Every country in south asia went through enthic violence in the past. Hopefully we can shelter the rohinyas(document them and let them stay for a while) Until the problem subsides. Hopefully peace will return to rakhine :)

.
They are not locals and are arabs by root,, but this is not the problem
the main problem is they don't wan't to blend in local culture and are creating problem in Myanmar by creating a arab atmoshphere inside Mayanmar,,recently they raped a gal of buddhist community..

This has got to be the most idiotic and most bigoted post I've come across in a while.

The Rohingya (Burmese: ရိုဟင်ဂျာ) Under pressure from Bangladesh, the Arakan Rohingya National Organization (ARNO) contacted the Karenni National Progressive Party in late August 2002 regarding the possibility of relocating its bases to KNPP-controlled territory on the border between Thailand and Burma. According to a report prepared by Burmese military intelligence, ARNO also sought membership in the Democratic Alliance of Burma, a loose confederation of Burmese insurgent groups now operating on the Thai/Burmese border. KNPP reportedly refused ARNO's request. The DAB also rejected ARNO's application for membership, but has forged a "military alliance" with ARNO, according to the paper. The Burmese also report that ARNO's Chairman Nurul Islam, has received a U.S. visa and is en route to the United States via Saudi Arabia. The facts in the Burmese paper appear plausible. Its purpose is probably to draw a connection between Al Qaeda, which has supported ARNO, and Burmese insurgent groups active on the Thai border.
These terrorists will bring Al Qaeeda to Myanmar

This is a RAW plot to feed the US/West the Koolaid that Bengali/Arakanese have joined hand with "Al Qaeda terrists" but the US unfortunately for them knows about this Rohingya situation from way back. Another RAW brilliant idea goes bust.

The recent murder/rape of Buddhist girl and then lynching of 10 Muslims could be a staged event by paid RAW agents there, just a possibility. It is bad for Myanmar-Bangladesh relations, but good for Indian strategy to box-in Bangladesh.

Seems RAW is considered all powerful, all knowing by bangladeshis here ( not very merciful though)

Historic trail of indian instigation in Myanmar unrest:

"In the 1980s and early 1990s, Indian intelligence adopted a conscious policy of developing close relations with rebel groups along its borders with [Myanmar],'' said Naba Kumar Singh, who heads the Myanmar studies in Manipur university in Northeast India.

''India's RAW [Research and Analysis Wing] supported the Kachins, the Chins and the Arakanese insurgents to neutralize its own northeastern militants along a long border but also to keep pressure on the [Myanmar] military regime. That changed in 1995," he says.

Once India decided to court the military junta, the Indian military started to crack down on the rebel groups it had once supported. The bases of the Chin National Front (CNF) in northeastern India's Mizoram and Manipur were raided and most of their fighters were forced to flee or were nabbed.

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA), which had received a huge consignment of weapons after its former chief Maran Brangsein visited Delhi twice and the chief of India's external intelligence RAW, were also told they could "no longer depend on Indian support".

The policy shift was controversial among the rank and file, many of whom had developed relations with rebel leaders. The RAW's late deputy chief B B Nandi actually offered to come to the defense of the 34 NUPA rebels in court because he felt they were victims of treachery.

Just before he died in Calcutta, he told this writer that he had opened the first parleys with the NUPA, the KIA and the CNF in an attempt to secure India's eastern borders with Myanmar from the "pernicious effects of insurgency, drug and weapons trade".

''These rebels served India's interest much better than [Myanmar's] military regime," Nandi told this writer.

TEKNAF, June 11 (AFP): Bangladesh border guards Monday turned back eight boats carrying more than 300 Rohingya Muslims, mostly women and children, fleeing religious violence in Myanmar, a border guard said.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and coastguard patrol teams, which have been ordered to prevent an influx of refugees, intercepted the boats on the Naf river that separates the two nations, BGB Major Shafiqur Rahman said.

"There were more than 300 Rohingya in the boats which are coming from the Myanmar city of Akyab (Sittwe). They were carrying mainly Rohingya women and children, many of whom were crying and looked extremely anxious," he told AFP.

"All eight boats have been pushed back to Myanmar territory," he added.

Akyab is the former name of Sittwe, the capital of Myanmar's western Rakhine state where sectarian violence flared last week, leaving at least 17 people dead and prompting the authorities to declare a state of emergency.

An AFP photographer at Teknaf in Bangladesh, near the border with Myanmar, saw smoke billowing from houses believed to be burnt in villages during the sectarian violence.

BGB men handed out water and food to the Rohingyas on the boats before they were turned back, Rahman told AFP.

Security has been stepped up along Bangladesh's 200-kilometre (125-mile) border with Myanmar to stem the influx of Rohingya refugees.

"We have been asked not to allow any illegal entry of Rohingya in Bangladesh. The authorities are concerned that their could be large-scale Rohingya entry from Myanmar," coastguard officer Badruddoza, who uses one name, told AFP.

Burma's persecuted Muslims

Much as been made over the last week of Burma's march towards democracy following Aung San Suu Kyi's election victory. But the country's much trumpeted democratic reforms have done little to help Burma's Muslim Rohingya people, who have been described as among the most persecuted on earth.

Now denied citizenship, they can't travel without special permits and are frequently stripped of their homes and land. They are forbidden from having more than two children and any who marry without permission face long jail terms. The Today programme's Mike Thomson reports from Burma.
