Panel clears BJP in church attacks, Moily fumes

Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily on Saturday accused the BJP government of having "hijacked" the judicial commission that gave a clean chit to the party and Sangh parivar outfits for attacks on churches in Karnataka in 2008 and said a CBI probe should be ordered into the case. "Ruling BJP has hijacked the commission and had failed to protect minority Christians in the state," Moily said over the findings of BK Somashekara Commission of Inquiry.

In its final report submitted on Friday, the commission had failed to name the organisations involved in the attacks and hence CBI should be entrusted with the probe, he said.

The attacks on churches in seven districts across the state had caused a major embarrassment to the first-ever BJP government in the south barely four months after it assumed office following which the judicial inquiry was ordered.

Speaking to reporters, Moily demanded that Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa should immediately order a CBI probe as "truth cannot be suppressed and a thief is a thief."

"Just because a commission gave a report, truth cannot be buried, it should come out and the state government should make sincere efforts (towards it)," the former Karnataka chief minister said.

Moily said the commission's final report should be read with the interim report and there were contradictions between the two.

"Always any Commission's final report should be taken into account along with the interim report. In this case, it was very clear in the interim report submitted in February 2010 where there was mention about involvement of Bajarang Dal and failure on the part of police and district administrations in discharging their duties," he claimed.

In its report that came as a relief to BJP, the commission had cited circulation of derogatory literature with "insulting attitude" towards Hindus and issues of conversion as the main reasons for the attacks.

It said there was no basis to the apprehension of the Christian petitioners that politicians from BJP, mainstream Sangh Parivar and state government were directly or indirectly involved in the attacks.

There have been many cases of radical non-Hindus themselves attacking the churches and blaming the Sangh Parivar for that.

"Just because a commission gave a report, truth cannot be buried, it should come out and the state government should make sincere efforts (towards it)," the former Karnataka chief minister said.

What is this non-sense ? Just because Congress did not get what it wanted, is it trying to pre-empt the proceedings ?? And what is "truth cannot be buried" ...they want the commision to probe and probe till some how they arrive at the Sangh Parivar attacked the churches ?

I will not be surprised if CBI now conducts an 'enquiry' and bring out the 'truth' that Sangh is behind the attacks.

And The people From Baj Rang Dal and Ram Sena openly accepted the responsibility (of attack on Churches) on many national news channels then.

If I cant comment on the issue because I am a Hindu, then neither can you - you being a christian.

But the truth is, none of these attacks were not done by the BJP/Sangh Parivar.Some were done by Ram Sene and some others by non-Hindus posing a Hindus. So Dont confuse BJP/Sangh parivar with dissident groups like Ram Sene.

Pramod Muthalik the chief of Ram Sene had long been expelled from RSS for his extremist views.

Also these attacks did not happen in a vacuum where one fine morning the Ram Sene people decided to attack churches because there was no cricket match that day. Many evangelical churches ,for example the Baptist Church of India have given propaganda notices denigrating Hinduism as a satanic cult and Hindus as devil worshippers.

So the fault is on both sides one for provocation and other for responding in a medieval manner.

So seriously get down your moral high ground.

Advice you to please read the Supreme Court verdict & the reasons which instigated locals in Orissa in Graham Stains murder case and also the reasons behind Church attacks in Karnataka by the Panel.
It is Church, which is Distorting facts and trying to malign Hinduism through nefarious means. Church in India is Indulge in illegal Money Laundering, Forced Conversion & Anti-India & other terrorist activities across India. It is not hidden fact that why few State Govt. & Govt. at Center is Blind-eyed to their activities even though they are aware of the facts. It's called appeasement policy which Pseudo-secular Govt. has been playing very well to garner dirty votes at the cost of social harmony and National Security.
Supreme Court of India has clearly pointed out in his judgment in Stain case that Stain was involved in coversion 'by use of force'.

By no mean I am trying to justify violence here but message is very clear by these attacks.

Many evangelical churches ,for example the Baptist Church of India have given propaganda notices denigrating Hinduism as a satanic cult and Hindus as devil worshippers.
This too might be handiwork of Baj Rang Dal and Ram sena as an excuse to attack Churches.
The Christian Denomination which i follow, i have never seen the Priest denouncing any other religion, But instead they quote Gita in many of their speeches.
By the by I am a Kerala Mathomite: And few years back Our Bishop (Head of our denomination) was a Phd in Bhagwat Gita.

Do I seem to be worried about it. ?? Be in denial that certain sects are not indulging in these kind of cheap acts, but then dont whine when things blow back in their faces.

Did I say 'all' sects or churches are doing that ? 'Certain sects' has a very clear meaning in English and you seem to have missed that. BTW that phenomena is not limited to Coastal Karnataka alone, even in my hometown in Coimbatore I have seen about those.

So if the Church is sincere in stopping these kind of attacks it must first rein in those militant evangelists who do these activities as some kind of money-generating profession rather as a true service to God.
