Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has repeated his country’s support for the Chinese government regarding its policies in the Muslim-majority Xinjiang province, while also praising the country’s one-party system as offering a better model for societies compared with electoral democracy.

Khan was speaking to members of the Chinese news media who were visiting Islamabad as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday.

Rights groups accuse China of systematic and widespread “mass internment and torture amounting to crimes against humanity” against the Muslim population in its southwestern Xinjiang province.

In a report last month, Amnesty International termed the situation in Xinjiang “a dystopian hellscape”, citing dozens of witness accounts that detailed allegations of brainwashing, torture and an erasure of cultural identity.

But Khan, who has regularly called for international action against Islamophobia, particularly in European countries, said he was satisfied with the Chinese government’s denials of any rights abuses.

“Our interaction with Chinese officials, that version of what is happening in Xinjiang is completely different to the version of what we hear from the Western media and the Western governments,” he said on Thursday.

“Because we have our very strong relationship with China, and because we have a relationship based on trust, so we actually accept the Chinese version. What they say about their programmes in Xinjiang, we accept it.”

Pakistan shares a longstanding strategic relationship with its northeastern neighbour China, which has invested more than $60bn in the country through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Khan also lauded the one-party system of governance in China, where the state is exclusively controlled by the Communist Party of China and there are no direct elections for major positions or the country’s parliament.

“The CPC is a unique model. Up until now, we were told that the best way for societies to improve themselves is the Western system of democracy,” said Khan.

“What the CPC has done is that it has brought this alternative model. And they have actually beaten all Western democracies in the way they have brought up merit in their society.”

Khan, who was elected to power in a general election in 2018, said electoral democracy “straight-jackets you” when it comes to reforms, and lauded the “flexibility” of the Chinese model.

“Up until now, the feeling was that electoral democracy is the best way where you get leadership based on merit, and then hold that leadership accountable. But what the CPC has done is that without that electoral democracy it has actually achieved that much better,” he said.

Yaar, thought he does like Saudi system ( A king), last time he told.

Now, is he changed his mind?

Perhaps you hate reading or imagine if you say it ain't so- it would be true. It clearly states in that quote that he stated he liked the one-party system in the article (that's not economics, that's political), and later in the article speaks in favor of the CCP alternative system (political) to a Democracy.

His words, not mine!

I think the PM has applied it in the wrong candidate

Why not Pakistan has had a one party system on several occasions- Ayub Khan, Zia ul Haq and Musharraf.
In Pakistan, one party system is going to backfire. We have fault lines based on ethnic and sectarian groups and one party system is only going to make it worse. We need better democracy instead.

.
America killed several Muslims around the world in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria & completely quite on Rohangya Muslims killing in Burma But now just look how much they get pain for Chinese Muslims ( crocodile tares)...

Why not Pakistan has had a one party system on several occasions- Ayub Khan, Zia ul Haq and Musharraf.

They were military-rules with obedient multiple political parties

Under the three military-rules, politics were not allowed to develop and all focus was on internal security, regional security and military progress.

That's why each military-rule could not sustain a period of more than a decade.

We are with Imran Khan. That will be a great decision if taken.
BTW, China is not one party system as many tell. But one party is more powerful.

Those are not the words of Imran Khan

That is a quote of from the editor at Al Jazeera, making a vague reference to Imran Kahns speech and parotting U.S. regime propaganda phrases that have absolutely nothing to do with Imran Kahns statements.

Imran Kahn lauded the benefits of merit based leadership.

He pointed out that Chinas systems achievements contradicted the false notion that only the American invented coorporate circus show called electoral democracy could service the public and hold people accountable, by actually doing what they promise and better than them.

He criticized the selfdefeating shackles that Western style so called electoral democracy bring with them, in regards to reforms which is something urgently needed for developing countries, that dont start their "democratic" history on the back of a country that happend to be a genocidal slave driving and pirating entirely authorian empire already stacked with great wealth.

Its just typical blue book CIA propaganda, quotemining and putting words into the mouths of multiple parties that pertain to each other, pushing them to deny them and produce and sew friction points between others out of nothing or at least draw attention to secondary US propaganda talking points embedded into the fresh primary bait sparking the responses.
