Pakistanis urged to stop bashing their homeland

I have never bashed my home land like a fool, I have criticized it, but when I do criticize Pakistan I also praise Pakistan in an equal amount.

I have also read the article below referred to by another member on this thread.

Tribune survey: Online Pakistanis

A majority of Pakistan’s internet users say they consider themselves ‘Muslim first’ (49%) , ‘Pakistani’ second (28%) while 23% voted ‘Other’, a survey conducted by The Express Tribune found. On the flipside, the survey results also showed that overseas Pakistanis identified more with being a ‘Pakistani’ than a ‘Muslim’ as compared to locals.

That quote above shows one of the issues in Pakistani society, Pakistanis should identify as being "Pakistanis first", this in my opinion shows that they love their home land & are willing to help it progress. They should identify themselves with other Muslims second, their primary identity must always be "Pakistani".

Islam is extremely important of course, & Pakistanis should follow its teachings as much as possible, in my opinion religion ensures the existence of morality in a society. Of course morals can exist without religion, but the moral standards set by Islam in my view are far superior to those standards humans have come up with themselves.

In conclusion, obeying God is crucial for the next world, but you must always identify yourself with your own home land/nationality.

Anyway I have to go, it's time to sleep here.

"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." - Samuel Johnson.

Surely we are humans first and then have second identity , it is a common for every country to indoctrinate a kid at school with a certain sense of nationalism because you need to belong to something. Nationality is a social contract for some , for others its a lifetime commitment.

I surely do not agree with mr Johnson , just because a white man said it , doesn't make it a credible argument , history is full with men with a twisted understanding of a society and with views which can't be proven on the ground. Patriotism has existed since the human civilization developed , it comes from our nature , we love the countries , places we were born and raised in. So for people there is not much of a choice there.

I can proudly say that i am a Pakistani & i have NO shame in saying that i am hugely patriotic - so i can riddle this to mr Johnson.

A man's country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle and patriotism is loyalty to that principle.

well, pakistan was formed in the name of islam, so if people say they are first muslims first, whats wrong with that

second being muslim first is only emphasizing that we are not being blind nationalist, we care about islamic values, and it doesnt mean that one is not patriotic at all, and we are a part of a large brotherhood, but of course today muslims try to be blind nationalists which is the main problems existing now a days, it also ensures that we pakistanis are not alone..

Maybe mr. cheng was from the elite section of our society and can easily spout crap, and quote foreigners. My family on the other hand was tortured and killed by Hindus and Sikhs. We call Pakistan home because Mr. Jinnah designated us with one.

It's easy to preach ideological bs without ever having to sacrifice anything to gain something. Pakistan is our blessing. Pakistan is my home. Pakistan is the land that I love. Pakistan is the land I come to, and when I smell the air it gives me inspiration to believe my country is the best throughout the world.

I see what some mods/members post here about Pakistan. They criticize our land without even acknowledging the fact that this is the very land they have eaten from and do namak ******.

I don't care what some of these liberal Pakistanis say, because in the end they believe in their nonsense and get humiliated here in the west. I have seen it first hand. Liberal Pakistanis trying to conform to the west and still they get insulted. The sad part is they continue to host ideas that they feel will make them "accepted". Nothing could be farther away from the truth.

There is no problem of Muslim identify but my argument is if Pakistan side with USA or whoever enemy, religious Pakistanis became emotional to burn down our country and destroy every properties, they continue to kill people if someone disagree with you. Some of them willing to join talibans training or Al-Qeada or terrorist camps to revenge on Pakistan instead respect Pakistan's laws/orders. Hafiz Saeed is good example role models for all of us.

It is just Pakistan can't tell differences right or wrong decisions.

That is the failure of the state to educate and provide a future for the people.
For example, The black population in 1992 rioted in California and they looted and destroyed property.
They rioted because the state had failed them, not because they were black or christian or anything else.

Point being that, it is easy to blame the lowest common denominator (in this case Islam) but it is not always a fair or right comparison.

My dear flyer:

All Samuel Johnson is saying is that scoundrels find wrapping themselves in patriotism a very fruitful method of hiding from criticism.

Exhibit A: Modern day Pakistan.

It is not meant to belittle love of country, but to warn us not follow our leaders blindly while they convince us of their patriotism.

A lot of self-hating people suffering from identity crisis who would join indians and other enemies of Pakistan in bashing Pakistan. Those people make me sick.

There is a difference between a liberal Pakistani and a self hater/gora worshipper.

Quaid-E-Azam was a liberal Pakistani who won our freedom from the british and the hindus. Vcheng is a self-hater/gora worshipper or maybe another indian hiding behind false flags.

One of the reasons why Pakistanis think negatively about their homeland is because of the negative role the 'free' media plays in Pakistan. While it is appreciated that the flaws in our society are being highlighted, & awareness is increasing; the positive developments of Pakistan are never highlighted, & there needs to be a balance there. There is another conundrum, that the more conservative elements of Pakistan become increasingly defensive on positive criticism. Both the liberal (secular) & conservatives (Islamists) argue that the country is intolerant of them, & is acting as an enemy.

There is a lack of quality entertainment on Pakistani TV. Even the quality TV shows in the 90s have been replaced by Star Plus-wannabes. So naturally, the Pakistani population has become increasingly political or religious, & not much else.

Yes Pakistan was formed in the name of Islam, but the identity it gave to those Muslims is Pakistani. Besides just by identifying yourself as Muslim first doesn't give you any guarantee of paradise. Following the Islamic teachings & obeying God is necessary for entrance to heaven, calling yourself Muslim first will do nothing for you. I have met many Pakistanis who call themselves Muslims first, but they know next to nothing about Islam & they rarely follow any of its teachings.

Caring about & following Islamic values, valuing the spiritual Muslim brotherhood can be done even if you identify yourself as a Pakistani first. I consider myself Pakistani first, & I know that I care for more Islamic values than many of those people who identify as being Muslim first.

Muslims are a large brotherhood, but we have our own separate identities, cultures, & languages that must be honored. All Muslims from other nations honor their roots & are proud of their nationalities. Pakistanis must be the same, look after your homeland first, & make sure you don't get obsessed with the idea of Muslim brotherhood or become desperate for being thought of as brothers or sisters by other nations.

^ I've met many Christian Pakistanis who are patriotic Pakistanis.

We all should unite and protect Pakistan.
