A Pentagon spokesperson, while speaking of the common threat of terrorism to the US and Pakistan, said on Friday that “it is important to remember the Pakistani people have become and are victims of terrorism, just like the people in Paris are this week.”

“It is for Pakistan to continue the fight against terrorism in its own interest as Pakistanis have been victims of terror,” said Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby during a press briefing in Washington.

He also said that the United States would continue to support Pakistan to eliminate the shared threat of terrorism, adding that military cooperation also continues to improve between the two countries.

“And it’s a common threat, a common challenge that we all have to continue to work on together and to look for ways to improve that cooperation. I will also tell you that cooperation with Pakistan and Pakistani military in general continues to improve,” Kirby said.

Responding to a question regarding Washington putting pressure on Pakistan, Kirby said, “It’s not about us putting pressure on the Pakistani government. It’s about the Pakistani government continuing to address this threat in keeping with their best interests and the interests of their people.”

“And it’s a shared threat, a shared challenge that we have, and we have maintained an interest in helping them deal with, and that will continue,” he added.

Further regarding militant sanctuaries, Kirby said it has long been an issue of concern for them. “It’s long been a topic of discussion with our Pakistani counterparts.”

It's up to Pakistan to showcase it's willingness to eliminate terrorist in it's soil. I understand, knowing the terrain of FATA/ Tribal Areas, and the culture there, the Pakistan Army is up against a wall but it needs to reach out to International Media to embed Journalist in it's units. Get the Hearts and Minds of not just the people, but the International Public.

Pakistan has allot of sympathy & respect in the US Military and older Intelligence Officers, they haven't forgotten about it's help in the Cold War. If it was up to the Pentagon, a couple hundred Black-hawks and Apaches would be flying over to help in COIN OPs.

Yeah there is already a precedence

In November 2010 ; Obama gave a clean chit to Pakistan in Mumbai
while CIA was zeroing in on to Osama bin Laden in Abottabad

AND then just SIX months later Pakistan got a bad surprise

And then it surprised Indians even more at their failure to ask US to label Pakistan as a terrorist state. US-PAK relations is above and beyond the comprehension of any Indian. We really don't give a shyt what Indians think or want. US does not care about Indian reservations every now and then....that shows that despite OBL raid, US wants to work with Pakistan.
Even more......OBL was just an intelligence failure.....just like Indians were sleeping when Kargil happened....Indians were sleeping when Mumbai happened....even better just like the whole US intelligence community who missed the 9/11 hijackers who were training in USA for months before the 9/11

Only Indians will find ways to blow OBL fiasco.....even though, the world has moved on....US has moved on......

Shows the level of intellect or lack thereof of the Indians.

Oh Come on !!!

You have opened a thread on the Obama certificate to Pakistan WITHOUT doing your homework
and now you are lecturing me

You will not accept that by giving a clean chit in November 2010
Obama simply took you for a ride ; what followed was ...
well you know

And the FACT is that if there is ONE DAY that Pakistan would like
to remove from the calender ; it is May 2 / 2011

Pakistan's relations with US ; its standing in the world community and its IMAGE
ALL would have been much better if May 2 / 2011 had not happened

You would like to believe that the world has moved on

But such stains do not get removed for a long time

Even now The visit of General Raheel Sharif to US was
good only on " optics and visuals " but nothing substantive accrued to Pakistan

Yea, General Raheel should've emailed you the minutes of the meetings he had. Sure, i'll ask him to do that.

Talking of OBL incident.... can anybody prove that Bin Laden was there in the compound on that night? is there any solid evidence..... or just some "eye witness" accounts of some military personals... most of you missed this but..... that raid was a made up to wrap up the afghan mission on a high note... and tell the world we have succeeded in our mission.

We have always emphasized Pakistan’s importance in the region, and our officials are meeting regularly to discuss the regional security. As reported today, Army chief General Raheel Sharif met United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander General Lloyd J Austin III at the General Headquarters.

Army chief meets CENTCOM commander at GHQ – The Express Tribune

According to Inter Services Public Relations, during the meeting, matters of mutual interest including bilateral defense cooperation and overall regional security situation with special emphasis on Afghanistan were discussed.

The common and growing threat of terrorism continues to prove that it is imperative for our nations to remain united in regards to our shared peace objectives. No two other nations could understand each other’s sacrifices more as we have lost thousands of brave soldiers in our common fight against terrorism. It is no secret that Pakistan has faced the wrath of terrorism in recent times. At the same time, we have full confidence in Pakistan’s ability to restore peace in the country. It is also our wish to see peace prevail throughout the country. At the end of the day, we cannot have a safe and secure region without a safe and secure Pakistan.
