Colombo: The Chief of Naval Staff Pakistan Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila arrived in Colombo Thursday evening on a bilateral visit.
He was received by Rear Admiral SAMJ Perera, Chief of Staff Sri Lankan Navy along with High Commissioner of Pakistan, Major General (Retd.) Qasim Qureshi and Defence Advisor Pakistan, Colonel Sheharyar Parvez Butt.
During his visit, Admiral Sandila will launch "Pakistan Navy War College Alumni Chapter in Sri Lanka" on 14 December for officers of Sri Lankan Navy who have undergone training at Pakistan Navy War College.
Admiral Sandila was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1975. He is a highly qualified naval officer who, during his distinguished career, has held challenging Command and Staff appointments, which include the command of a guided missile Destroyer PNS BADR and 25th Destroyer Squadron.
Admiral Sandila had the distinction of being Director General Maritime Security Agency and Commander Logistics. He also had the coveted honour of Commanding Pakistan Navy Fleet during the period from Oct 2008 to Nov 2009. Before being appointed as the Chief of the Naval Staff, the Admiral was serving as Chief of Staff at Naval Headquarters Islamabad.
He is a graduate of Naval Command and Staff College from Indonesia and Armed Forces War College at National Defence University. He is recipient of the award of Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) and "Chevalier de I' Ordre National de Merite" for rescue of French nationals in Maldives during Tsunami.
