Pakistani man jailed for chanting 'Allahu Akbar'on Emirates flight

I lost 40000 of my countrymen to those words. How can you speak for all muslims when you cannot even speak for all Europe? The Vietnamese lost many more millions to democracy and the battle between the east and west. Yet, neither cowers behind claiming common sense as you do. It is just the hate that you have that clouds your judgement.

To be fair, to a person on the receiving end, it is a frightening situation.
The problem seems to be the lack of acknowledgement that there is a problem of radicalization.
That lack of acknowledgement is interpreted as lack of action and the fear grows.

A single radical can cause tremendous collateral damage. That's a fact that has been repeatedly proven in recent years.

I have debated this numerous times and the debate goes in circles. The non-muslims are afraid to offend the other side and the other side is afraid to acknowledge that there is an issue somewhere that must be addressed.

An open debate on this is not possible since it would go down the path of offending a lot of people but for families of people on the receiving end of the knife to throat, the nightmare never ends.

.
A lot did. The Indian subcontinent produced many a modern(not western, but in line with current times) interpretation of the scripture and provided a bullwark for a long time to the supposed purist movements that now have Arab states in flames.

I personally believe it's an amalgam of the cultural and the theological that created the Indian version of Islam. "Version" to be used lightly, not implying a fundamental shift of tenets or any such. But I do not believe much of what we see is new in any way.

It is a pet theory of mine that times change. But a people do not. Not fundamentally at their core. Not to be confused with customs, rituals, dress, etc. which wax and wane with environmental epochal influences.

correction. The Non muslims have failed to acknowledge any and all efforts to address radicalisation.
So even if efforts are made, there is no support or highlight provided to them. They are left in the dark, with no assistance from the population and no let up in resistance from the extremists.

.
A drunk would never say " Allah Akbar" and a person who says " Allah Akbar" will never drink. These are mutually exclusive.

u dont seem 2 have met many drunk people. they say any thing which comes 2 their mind

.
Those words are plain and simply connected with absolute evil for us.
The only connection these words for most italians / europeans have is in connection with terror, barbarism and murder.

the majority is irrelevant. Blame yourself for have allowed it to go that way.

In that case try not to go near a mosque or a Muslim or you might $hit your pants.

That's a very depressing assessment.

Relax man. No need to get paranoid. We the majority of muslims mean you no harm. It is only a tiny minority which is scaring you. I humbly suggest that you read the translation of Koran. It will remove the "absolute evil" and fill you with absolute peace and wisdom. You should be able to find it in any public library in Italy or search the web. I am trying to point in the right direction. I wish the best for you.

. . .
Tell that to maulana Sheerani.
A muslim who wants to go to Heaven in the next life does not drink alcohol. We all have to make our own choices and live with the consequences.

Actually I have seen drunk people. I did my engineering in UK and I have seen plenty of drunk people coming out of the pubs. Why do you think Islam banned drinking. It is precisely to avoid this kind of obnoxious behavior.

That is up to Allah to decide and not us. The day you take that responsibility of decision you are challenging him.

A Pakistani man who screamed ‘Allahu Akbar’ during turbulence on a Birmingham-bound flight earlier this year has been jailed, the Mirrorreported.

Shehraz Sarwar, who was arrested for using threatening words and behaviour on the plane, threw food and towels around causing uproar in the aircraft as people feared a terrorist attack.

The 38-year-old has now been jailed for ten weeks at Birmingham Crown Court.

Earlier during takeoff, the 38-year-old had refused to fasten his seat belt but had later settled down and slept for hours. However, as the pilot lined the plane up to land, he became aggressive. There was also severe turbulence on the plane at the time.

Prosecuting Sarwar in Birmingham Crown Court, Patrick Sullivan QC told the Birmingham Mail, “The behaviour before these words was obnoxious. He fell asleep for about three quarters of the flight and when he woke up he threw a towel back at a member of staff who had offered him one. He also threw a scone behind him although it did not land on anyone.”

“He was also hitting his head with his hand. People were distressed and upset by his behavior,” Sullivan added. He said, “There was terrible turbulence during the flight and some passengers were very frightened.

Sarwar, a resident of Birmingham, pleaded guilty to the charges. His lawyer, Balbir Singh, said he had been affected by the death of his grandmother and hadn’t taken his medication.

“The heavy turbulence also provoked him,” his lawyer said.

One passenger said they were happy to have survived the landing but thought Sarwar was going to set off a bomb aboard the flight. Judge Francis Laird QC told Sarwar, “Set in the context of the current political situation , chanting Allahu Akbar over and over again while on a plane had a frightening effect on some of the passengers and reduced some to tears. You misbehaved and you were arrogant onboard.”

“Incidents such as these on planes are taken very seriously by the courts and due to the circumstances I have no alternative but to send you to prison for 10 weeks.”

Sarwar was also told he would be placed on licence with a 12 month supervision order when he was released.

Sad state of affairs. It's like a christian man shouting Jesus in times of distress. A Hindu man shouting Hey Bhagwan if he thinks his plane is going to crash. We invoke God in times of perceived peril or otherwise.

Somehow Allah-hu Akbar has turned into this battle cry against everything non-muslim.
Sad very sad. But, who to blame??

Side note. The poor guy should be let-off.

the majority is irrelevant..
t
I have mixed feelings about the statement. The majority was also irrelevant during the Nazi's. Not all Germans willingly supported or supported at all the National Socialist German Workers' Party. These fanatic minorities are the ones causing the problem.
The irrelevant majority will also be blamed.

If they don't want to be blamed stop talking to your kids about religion. Stop sending them to Madarssas which are known to be trouble makers. The intelligentsia can come out and say these & these facts aren't true. No virgin is waiting for you in afterlife. No indoctrination. I just fail to understand what good will come out of an education like this? What will you solve`?

Majority of the religions in the world can have people come out say things against it. Barring Islam where you'll most certainly have a violent & brutal ending.

@MarkusS I didnt have a point against yours or anything. Just a few pointers in general.
