Pakistani held on charge of BPL spot-fixing

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday detained a Pakistani citizen for his suspected involvement in spot-fixing during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. He was handed over to the police.

Karachi resident Sajid Khan arrived in Dhaka on February 10 in the guise of a cosmetic businessman and watched every BPL matches after his arrival. The BCB security chief, retired colonel Mesbahuddin Serniabat, said that they had kept an eye on Sajid since the BPL Chittagong phase and finally captured him on Sunday.

‘His movement was very suspicious and we followed him from Chittagong,’ he said adding that they had immediately taken him to the visiting ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit official before handing him over to the Mirpur police.

The police were supposed to raid the Hotel Grand Prince at Mirpur where Sajid was staying.

Sources said that officials had found the bank account number of Chittagong Kings’ Pakistani batsman Nasir Jamshed and the e-mail address of Dhaka Gladiators’ Rana Naved-ul Hasan in his mobile inbox.

He was making a call to Pakistan every time a six was struck while watching the game from the VIP southern gallery just on the top of a dressing room and several times attempted to enter the players’ zone.

‘We filed an FIR where we explained everything to police,’ Serniabat said.

The incident took place in less than three weeks from the time former national captain Mashrafee bin Muratza alleged that he was approached by a former cricketer for spot-fixing.

The BCB launched a formal investigation following incident which is yet to be completed.

Can pakistanis play a single tourney without spot fixing ? Seriously though, this is getting rather ‏ridiculous.

has anything been proved ? han ... ? has the investigation been completed even to file a proper case against the so-called accused here ?? :hitwall: has anyone been found/proven guilty as charged in any court of law ... ?? :azn:
now guess what , i tell you what the free world believes :" a person is innocent untill proven guilty "
do yourself a damm favour : try to find some answers to these valid questions first :coffee: then come here to convince the world about what you think of PakisTan or pakistanis rather than getting too excited with that pak-maligning propaganda backed by people with fcuked-up mentality ... :smokin:

Yeah yeah... the same rant we heard from your countrymen when your ODI captain, Mohammed Aamer, some other guy was caught red handed taking money.

Rest is history, since we all know all three were indicted/convicted for fraud and whatnot.

No No... Ajay Jadeja and Mumbaiya Bookies got all kinds of gambling tips from Aamir, Asif as well since time as voyager travelled reversely for Indians. Though up until today, UK's judge couldn't specify what impact did the teenaged Aamir create in that very test by throwing 2 no-balls after being duped, for which he was punished along with Asif and Salman. But Amir Shohail got to the bottom it (Sports, NOS, The News International) by revealing the fight between legal and illegal gamblers of EU and Bharatis, where Aamir was scapegoated. And till today Salman, Asif stayed consistent of their innocence. And lastly, former Aussie coach Lawson revealed that hooking innocent Pakistanis were facile as drinking cow pee by Bharati; especially through emotional blackmail, such as accepting bribe for charitable work's premise was OK. But by the time Aamir's type learns his lesson, job is done for Bharati Mo Fos. Pakistanis are already being painted as global chors.

just like that , right :-> Kambli suspects '96 World Cup SF was fixed

New Delhi: In the wake of revelations made by the ICC's former chief anti-corruption investigator, Paul Condon, claiming that in the late 1990s, Test and World Cup matches were being routinely fixed, former Indian batsman Vinod Kambli, in an interview to a television channel, made a startling claim that the 1996 World Cup semi-final between India and Sri Lanka could have been fixed.

Looking back at the infamous match that ended with Sri Lanka being declared winners because of crowd trouble at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Kambli said that during the team meeting it had been decided that India would bat first should they win the toss. Thus, reckoned Kambli, captain Mohammad Azharuddin's decision to field was against the scheme of things. Kambli also said that there was a tiff between Ajit Wadekar, who was the manager of the team at that time, and Azhar because of a truncated practice session on the eve of the match.

He went on to say that the way the rest of the batsmen perished after Sachin Tendulkar had provided the team with a solid start was suspicious, and that it seemed like a deliberate attempt to throw away their wickets. Kambli also said that was he had been continuously asking the batsmen at the other end to give him support.

"Something was definitely amiss. However, I was not given a chance to speak and was dropped soon after. Our team manager at that time Ajit Wadekar was aware of everything. He had even written an article afterwards that Vinod Kambli had been made a scapegoat."

Wadekar, who was also on the show, refuted Kambli's claims and stuck to the stand that the decision taken in the team meeting was that India would field first on winning the toss.

Sri Lanka won the first semi-final over India at Eden Gardens in 1996. When chasing a total of 251-8, the hosts slumped to 120-8 in the 35th over and that led to crowd disturbance.

The players left the field for 20 minutes in an attempt to quieten the crowd. When the players returned for play, more bottles were thrown onto the field, forcing match referee Clive Lloyd to award the match to Sri Lanka, the first default win ever in Test or one-day international.

NEW DELHI: Sports minister Ajay Maken wants the match-fixing claims made by former cricketer Vinod Kambli investigated by the BCCI and says his ministry might step in if the cricket board doesn't order a probe.

Kambli has created quite a flutter by claiming that something was "amiss" in India's loss in the 1996 World Cup semifinal against Sri Lanka and Maken said the claim should be investigated for all its worth.
