In honor of the close friendship and dedication between their two countries, Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. İlker Başbuğ conferred Monday the Turkish Armed Forces Medal of Merit upon Pakistani Chief of General Staff Gen. Tariq Majid.

Başbuğ welcomed Majid at the Turkish General Staff headquarters with a military ceremony.

Turkey and Pakistan have a friendly relationship based on history, said Başbuğ in a speech given in English.

“Military individuals have had a great contribution to the advancement of these relations. Gen. Majid has received many medals in his own country. But I think this medal presented by the Turkish Armed Forces holds a different meaning, for this medal is an indicator of the important steps taken by Gen. Majid to further relations between the armed forces of the two countries,” Başbuğ said.

"Gen. Majid, accept this medal of merit as I wish prosperity and happiness for our fellow Pakistani people and outstanding success for the Pakistani Armed Forces," Başbuğ said.

Gen. Majid said in his speech that the medal of merit holds a great deal of importance and that he would work to further Turkish-Pakistani relations in the future.
