Pakistani filmmaking graduate’s journey to Cannes Film Festival

Faraz Waqar is a young Pakistani filmmaker, a graduate of the New York Film Academy, Abu Dhabi whose graduation thesis film ‘9:11 am’ has been selected this year for its world premiere at the Festival de Cannes 2012 Short Films Corner.

Faraz has been congratulated by the management of the New York Film Academy both in the Middle East and in the United States. His achievement has been highlighted on Social Media channels by the Academy in both the UAE and the US. ‘9:11 am’ is a short film with a global political message presented very creatively as a mystery thriller.

Faraz Waqar considers the Pakistani director of the films ‘Khuda key liye’ and ‘Bol’, ShoaibMansoor as his main inspiration. “Reviving the film industry in my own country and making films addressing the various social and political issues facing the Middle East & South Asia has always been my goal,” says Faraz. “My graduation thesis film ‘9:11 am’ was submitted to a select list of international film festivals and I am very happy to say that it has been selected for its world premiere at the Festival de Cannes 2012 Short Films Corner.” The news was greeted with tremendous joy by his cast, his fellow graduates, his professors at the New York Film Academy, Abu Dhabi and his family and friends in Pakistan.
