Pakistani Consul General Aftab Ahmad Khokhar reassured Pakistani expatriates in the wake of the raids that have targeted even those with valid residency permits.
The government of Saudi Arabia has given us a three-month grace period. They are trying to provide an opportunity to illegal workers to streamline their statuses, he said.
The envoy said he had met with authorities in the Labor Department and was sure something better would come for the hardworking Pakistani expatriates.
His statements came during a function in honor of Pakistans leading nuclear scientist, Samar Mubarakmand, who is known for his research in gamma spectroscopy. He presented his latest project aimed at easing Pakistans much talked about energy crisis.
Few outside Pakistan know that Mubarakmand was at the helm of the nuclear project that catapulted Pakistan to the worlds proud member of the elite nuclear club.
Organized by the Engineers Welfare Forum (EWF), the meeting heard Mubarakmand expound his new-found mission to explore the minerals of Pakistan, which, if used properly, could solve the countrys need for energy in the next 500 years.
Gasification of coal was at the core of his plan. He said several countries are exploring this possibility and it will become the core energy plan of many more countries.
It is pollution-free, cheap and can be turned into many other requirements such as diesel, car fuel, electricity, naphtha, waxes, methanol, town gas and ammonia urea, said Mubarakmand.
The quiet and soft-spoken scientist took a dig at the current political leadership, which has banned coal gasification.
