The Pakistani Army has sought an additional Rs45bn ($521m) to meet the country's security requirements.
Pakistan's defence budget for 2010-11 is Rs442bn ($5.1bn) and the army gets 46.83% of the budget, with the remainder for the air force, navy and defence ministry.
Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has met army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in Rawalpindi to discuss the issue.
The finance ministry, however, indicated that an additional Rs10bn could be set aside, which is expected to hike the defence budget to Rs452bn ($5.2bn).
The Pakistani Army has 480,000 soldiers,[COLOR="Blue"] with 147,000 deployed on the country's western borders,[/COLOR] 100,000 guard the border with India, 10,000 on UN peacekeeping duties and 16,000 engaged in training.
