A Pakistani man accused of spying for Iran went on trial in Germany Wednesday, for allegedly searching out potential Israeli attack targets for the Revolutionary Guards.
The accused, named only as 31-year-old Haidar Syed M., remained silent — “out of fear,” according to his defense lawyer. He is accused of espionage “against Germany and another NATO member,” France, for the Quds Force, the foreign operations wing of the elite Revolutionary Guards.

Prosecutors charged he had compiled dossiers on possible attack targets — a German lawmaker who is the former head of a German-Israeli organization, and a French-Israeli professor of economics.

Investigators found detailed dossiers on the men and their daily routines, with hundreds of photos and video clips, the Berlin court was told. Those documents allegedly detailed the targets’ homes and work places, various access routes to them, as well as information on security guards, surveillance cameras and nearby police stations.

A representative of Germany’s domestic intelligence service, which handles counterespionage, said it was alerted to M. by a “reliable” source.

The service suspected the Quds Force was preparing for a possible future conflict with the United States and Israel, when it could hit targets in Europe in a form of “asymmetrical warfare.”

The Karachi-born M. came to Germany as a student in 2012 and most recently lived in the western city of Bremen. He had allegedly been in contact since 2011 with an Iranian named Mehmud who worked for the Quds Force, the court was told.

The Pakistani man had traveled to Iran at least twice, in October 2015 and February 2016, and received at least 2,052 euros ($2,166) for his intelligence activities.

He was arrested in July 2016 and faces up to three and a half years jail if found guilty.

The court has set seven hearings in the trial which is scheduled to run till late March.

On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told an event commemorating the victims of a 1992 Iranian-sponsored terror attack against the Israeli embassy in Argentina that the Islamic Republic was the source of the vast majority of Israel’s security concerns.

“Iran is the greatest generator of terrorism in the world in the world and we need to to fight this terror because it is just one arm of Iranian aggression, which also seeks nuclear weapons and advances its ballistic missiles program,” Netanyahu said.

Tehran continues to destabilize the region and to threaten Israel with annihilation, he went on. “One of our defense officials estimates that more than 80 percent of our security problems emanate from Iran.”

TimesOfIsrael... However, it is time to raise the bar of security further and those, who can be possible assets due to any affiliation/likes, must not be spared otherwise, such people are risk for our national interests as well as international relations. Concerned German Authorities must have contacted Pakistan to verify as such and there is no word by any other source yet.

. . . .

Always share more sources, if there is, so it can be verified. Good.

On topic: We have to evaluate internally that such people are dangerous for us too hence, cannot trust anyone due to such matters. On other hand, Iran hiring a Pakistani, that really made us fuel of a situation for personal gain and keeping in view Pakistan's interests, I would like that Authorities must do the needful as well as review the strategy further. This is unacceptable.

Pakistanis are so cheap, no wonder both sides in the middle eastern conflict thinks of us as cheap cannon fodder. This guy should be handed over to Pakistan to hang, if it is indeed true.

This has nothing to do with spying just an attempt defame Pakistan for it's relations with Iran. Currently Pakistan is working on a peace process between Saudia and Iran. Israel and EU don't want that peace to happen they want a war between Saudia and Iran for Israel to take over Palestine. So this all is BS attempt. Our naval chief met with Jordanians 2 days ago and most of Army officials are meeting with GCC and Iran to work on a solution.

I would rather wait for details and hope that officials will have the necessary details and if he is involved then I suggest that the earth shouldn't be enough for those people who attempted to harm us like this. Hopefully, foreign office will be releasing statement soon because for me, Pakistan is first.

Possibility is, mentioning Iran & Pakistan would be deliberate so, Pakistan Foreign Office has to wake-up for such blame or news.

There was a German arrested during ECO summit in Pakistan just recently. The very next day Erdogan made a statement against Germany. Every one here on the forum was saying he was hippy but I never heard the news of that German being released.

This is big so must meet the logical end either claims to be proven wrong and a conspiracy or we have to review the strategy that I do not prefer anyone over Pakistan like all of us. May be it is a response over recent German arrest in ISB during ECO.

Look currently it is a mess in EU and if I explain every thing it will derail the topic but it is related to the arrest in Islamabad at the ECO summit. They named Iran so that GCC lobby will not be used for this boy. I think it will be a trade in the end for the one in Islamabad.
