I have had no intension to direct something. I just want that as a nation we deserve honour from the world body may be we r facing lot of problems. Still we have had many contributions to this world. U know the major portion of intellectuals of India are of Bangladeshi origin and many of them have already endorsed it. We r an intellectual nation regarding knowledge.

Yes, I understand. I am not questioning the intellect or achievements of B'deshis, but simply acting as a self-appointed moderator :P

Bangladesh is not with anyone and why should they be?

They are an independent nation and they couldn't care a tuppence for anyone.

If they cared for Pakistan and the two Nation theory, they could have reunited. But they know what it will be to do so! Second class existence. They are first class now!!

Even our barrister can't deny that!

It is not necessary for Bangladesh to prove that they believe on ‘Two-Nation’ theory by rejoining Pakistan (although I believe they should develop a union with Pakistan but that’s my personal views). 1.25 billion Muslims are living in 58 countries yet they are tied by their common faith.

Problems are every where there were problems in Pakistan but you should not forget that many Indians specially south Indians think that they are treated like second class citizen by north Indians so is this true?

.
If Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar are not India's neighbours than what are they? India clearly does not appear to treat its neighbours as independent.

I meant to say that all these countries have good relations with India. Nepal has some problems time to time where they need to show anti Indian protests to be happy, but we do enjoy good relations with them.

And if these three countries are India's neighbours AND if India enjoys good relations with them, then your statement that India is resented and disliked by ALL its neighbours and ALL of them have problems with India is wrong.

Pakistan, China and Bangladesh dont make the whole set you know.

.
Sir, don't be so mean.

Don't take away his only comfort in life. He can blame all the shortcomings of his country now on big brother India.

What will he do otherwise?

Bur seriously Munshi, can't you see the depth to which your country has plunged without any outside help? I have talked to Bangladeshis in India and abroad and they tell me how when a rich overseas Bangladeshi returns to Dhaka, he has to be provided government protection! Blame India for everything all you want, you and I both know the reality. Your's is unfortunately a God-forsaken country. And I guess thankless people like you is what made it God-forsaken in the fist place.

Vinod - please refrain from personal attacks and generalizations.

The following threads are the landmark of the development of Bangladesh for which I feel proud of.

Proud of BD.

Coming of age!

Bangladeshi Local firm to build 10 ships for Japan

Highspeed Shipbuilding & Engineering Co, a Bangladeshi local shipbuilder, has won a US$50 million order from Japan to build ten small ships, further evidence of the country’s booming shipbuilding industry.

This is the first time the country has won a Japanese contract and underlines the increasing global acceptance of Bangladesh as an emerging shipbuilding nation. The buyer is Japan based Tokyo Freighting Ltd, a shipping company. The agreement was signed on Wednesday in Dhaka. “Since the Japanese firm is very conscious about standards and compliance, Tokyo Freighting experts will constantly supervise the overall manufacturing of these ships,” said KM Mahmudur Rahman, managing director of Highspeed Shipbuilding & Engineering, who signed the deal with Shigeki Date, managing director of Tokyo Freighting.

As per the agreement Tokyo Freighting Ltd will also provide technical support to Highspeed in developing its Narayanganj dockyard, in line with Japanese standards. Highspeed, which is to invest around US$ 5 million in the coming months to upgrade the manufacturing facility of its dockyard, will supply the ships by October 2010. Shigeki Date, managing director of Tokyo Freighting Ltd, along with Executive Director Yoshiteru Ikeda visited Highspeed dockyard recently and expressed their satisfaction, as it is well equipped with modern machinery. Manufacturing of the first four ships will start by December this year and will be delivered to Tokyo Freighting by March next year. The size of the ships, including dry cargo carriers and oil tankers, will vary from 2,000 tonnes to 4,000 tonnes. The Japanese company will supply all raw materials and other equipment.

Rahman said Japanese manufacturers are currently outsourcing small ships, as it is not cost effective now to manufacture them at huge dockyards. “It is a great development for the country’s shipbuilding industry as Japan, the most advanced shipbuilding nation in the world, starts building in Bangladesh. It may inspire other advanced shipbuilding nations to come to Bangladesh,” Rahman hoped. Currently local shipbuilders including Ananda Shipyard and Western Marine Shipyard are working on about US$ 400 million worth of orders for over 40 vessels for buyers from Germany, Denmark, Netherlands and Mozambique. The success of these two companies have encouraged other local companies such as Meghna Group of Industries, Rangs Group, Khan Brothers and Narayanganj Engineering & Shipbuilding to jump on the bandwagon of global shipbuilding market.

Behind the current boom of the industry is the global rise in the demand for new ships, especially smaller ones with a capacity below 15,000 dead weight tonnes (DWT). This has helped Bangladesh attract the attention of international shipping companies as traditional shipbuilding countries such as Japan, China, South Korea and Vietnam are not interested in building ships with under 20,000 DWT.

Indeed it doesn't.

But you will never understand the strong bonds that unite Bengalis, irrespective of religion.

Are you aware that the Bangladeshi National Anthem was written by Rabindranath Tagore, a Brahmo Samaji?

Are you aware that Nazrul Islam is a Indian National Poet Laureate who has the same esteem as Iqbal of yours!

Read Bengali Literature and you will realise the verities of life!

Bengali language, its culture and heritage knows no barriers or boundaries.

We are Bengalis and we are proud to be so. And yet, we are aware of international boundaries!

Dear Salim,

I do agree with all your points except the last one. I find it difficult to agree to your last one.

If you are talking in your personal capacity than ok however if you consider GOI actions than I don't agree with you.

Hope you agree.

Bangladesh has a great deal to be proud of. It is a country born from its Bengali culture and language and its name expresses this. It also has a long Muslim heritage dating from the 12th century AD. The West Bengalis for all their trumpeting of their Bengali culture remain within India where the 'Bengaliness' is often not appreciated for its uniqueness and has to compete for attention with several hundred other languages and cultures. It is Bangladesh that put Bengali Muslims on the map as well all the other features of our people. If West Bengal was really proud of their distinctiveness and identity they would have gone the way of Bangladesh and created their own independent country.
